Note!
The proportional amplifier may only be removed when made dead.
On delivery, twoadjustmentprotocols incl. the preset values and the inserted jumpers
are attached to the proportional amplifier (to be found in the inside door pocket).
In case of a newinstallation, the jumpers are to be checked -- and, if required, to be cor-
rected -- in accordance with this protocol.
In the normal case, the values to be adjusted have been preset by the factory, provided
that the information on the solenoid valves used was known before delivery of the equip-
ment.

These values as well as the jumpers are then recorded in the adjustment protocol.
If the values preset at the works should not coincide with the indicated values of the so-
lenoid valves used, these must be re--adjusted by the service technician as described in
the following.
These values are to be written into the adjustment protocols, and oneof themis to be
sent to the Raytheon Marine Service Department.

2.2.1.1 SetpointSpecification
The solenoid current is adjusted by specifying a setpoint.
The setpoint can be specified either externally or internally.
External: Setpoint specification via setpoint input terminal z20.
Internal: Call--up of 1 to 4 adjustable setpoints via relays.
Depending on the version of the proportional amplifier, an external setpoint can be spe-
cified in the formof a voltage or current signal.
The current input has an internal resistance of 500 Ohm, such that for an external set-
point of 0 to 20 mA, the internal voltage level (which can be measured at MS) is 0 to
10V.

External setpointspecificationfor valves withtwosolenoids:
If other sources are used for the setpoint specification instead of the voltages of +15V
supplied by the proportional amplifier, these sources must be referred to the analog

Internal setpointspecification:
The internal setpoint specification is carried out by means of the setpoint trimmers
A1/A2.
The adjusted setpoints can be activated by means of the internal relays K1/K2.

The setpoint trimmers are connected to the internal reference voltage via jumpers in
such a way as to allowa voltage of 0to 10Vto be adjusted.
Polarity can be changed by re--positioning the jumper concerned.
Note:
To provide an external setpoint specification for the setpoint trimmers, the jumper con-
nection concerned must be removed.
The permissible voltage range is 0 to 15V.

2.2.1.2 ModulationLimitation
The trimming potentiometers AB A for solenoid A and AB B for solenoid B can be used
to attenuate the setpoint--specific modulation range of the power stage.
It is thus possible to utilize only a sub--area of the valve characteristic (high resolution).

2.2.1.3 Zero--pointLiftFunction
(only with proportional amplifiers for 2 solenoids)
The zero--point lift function enables the solenoid current for each solenoid to be lifted
even with extremely small setpoints; separate adjustment is provided via the trimming
potentiometers Zero A and Zero B.
The zero--point lift is always operative only for the particular solenoid which is subject to
setpoint control.

2.2.1.4 Zero--pointLiftSuppression
(only with proportional amplifiers for 2 solenoids)
The zero--point lift suppression is used to suppress the zero--point lift for setpoint specifi-
cations in the range fromapprox. +6%of the limit value (+10V / +20mA). This prevents
the solenoids frombeing activated alternately by very small setpoint fluctuations in the
zero--range.

2.2.1.5 Utilizationof aSub--areaof theValveCharacteristic
(Example)
The zero--point lift and the modulation limitation make it possible to utilize sub--areas of
the valve characteristic in the normal setpoint range.
In the example below, the working range of the proportional valve with the characteristic
QA=f(I
A
) or QA=f(w), see Figurea, is to equal only 20 -- 60%of the nominal range
with a setpoint specification of 0 to +10V.
Adjustment:
-- Set lift by means of trimmer Zero A in such a way that the lower range limit for QA
is reached at w=0V (see Figure c).
-- Reduce the modulation limitation by means of trimmer AB A in such a way that the
upper range limit for QA is reached with w=10V (see Figure c).

2.2.1.6 RampShaper
The ramp shaper ensures a steady rise in the output voltage when the input voltage
rises abruptly.
After the elapse of the manipulating time, the input and output voltages are of identical
value. The ramp shaper fitted on the PCB enables two ramps to be separately adjusted
and selected by means of relays.
These relays can be activated either via an SPS control or via parallel activation with the
setpoint.
The adjustment of ramp manipulating time is linear.
The jumpers enable internal or external operation to be selected separately for each
ramp.
For internal operation, the trimmers on the proportional amplifier are used.

2.2.1.7 Superimpositionof Hum(I
osc.
)
The trimming potentiometer I
osc.
can be used to adjust the humamplitude of the valve
current for solenoids A and B.
The adjustment range is 0 to 40%of the modulation range. The humfrequency can be
adjusted to 50Hz or 100Hz by means of a jumper.

The superimposition of hum(dither) on the solenoid current improves the static friction
and thus the hysteresis of the valve.

3.3 Description
3.3.1 Proportional Amplifier, Type131--037.01
The Proportional Amplifier, Type 131--037.01 makes available a DC output signal for ac-
tivating the solenoids for proportional valves. In accordance with this output current, the
valves ensure stepless control of the oil delivery volume for the steering gear pumps.
The external set value is given by the analog set rudder signal.
The internal set value specifications can be configured and are activated via the steering
control signals (port/starboard) applied to the input side.
The proportional amplifier is designed as a single board and includes the following cha-
racteristics:
-- Type acc. to DIN 41612
-- 24V supply voltage
-- Power consumption 35VA as a maximum
-- 32--pole connector
-- Adjustable lift function
-- Short--circuit--proof and ground--fault--proof final stages
-- Current limitation to max. 1600 mA each direction.

3.3.2 Power SupplyUnit
The power supply unit consists of
-- transformer M1
-- rectifier and
-- fuse
Fromthe input voltage, the power supply unit produces the internal supply voltage of
24V DC (unregulated) for the proportional amplifier.
The power supply unit is fused on its secondary by 3.15A (slow).
3.3.3 RelayD1
The relay D1 monitors the 24V DC output voltage of the proportional amplifier and signa-
lizes voltage failure alarmvia a floating contact.
3.3.4 RelayD2
An externally connected operating mode selector permits change--over fromfollow--up
control (FU) or AUTO to non--follow--up control (NFU). By that, the relay D2 switches R1
for current limitation into the output circuit.
