Installation Instructions

LED Turn Signal Replacement Mirror Covers

Fits Mercedes M Class 1998-2001

Step 1: Remove Factory Mirror Cover
There are four mounting points inside the mirror cover that must be disengaged.
Here are the locations of the mounting points for the factory cover and the LED
cover

First detach clip nearest door. (#1)

Fold mirror assembly parallel with side of vehicle.

Apply light pressure on cover at the hinge area. Place a thin strip of cardboard in
the open gap to prevent the clip from re-engaging.

Next, unfold mirror to its normal driving position. To gain access to the 3
remaining attachment points, turn ignition to position 3 and adjust the mirror at the
maximum angle towards the truck.

Using a flashlight locate the 3 remaining mounting points behind the mirror. While
maintaining light outward pressure use a flat blade screwdriver to nudge the mirror
cover fingers from the mounting tabs. Once these two mounting points (2&3) are
disengaged the one mounting point at the top towards the center. (4) will release,
and the cover can be removed.
Hint - look at the clip location of the new LED Mirror covers to guide you.
Suggestion: Keep new covers in the bag to keep from being scratched.

Step 2: Remove factory mirror assembly
Open door and remove triangular sail panel by pulling outward with firm pressure
at the TOP ONLY !.
Remove the two 8mm nuts and one 8mm bolt behind the sail cover - unplug the
electrical connecter for the power mirrors. (Tip: Pull connector assembly away
from door mounting stud to make it easier to disconnect) Gently rock the mirror
assembly to un-stick the gasket and pull slowly straight away from door - while
guiding the plug through the foam seal in the door.
Set factory mirror assembly on a folded towel on bench sitting on bottom edge

Step 3: Routing LED Signal wire through factory mirror assembly

Place LED signal cover near to mirror assembly, but DO NOT attach at this time.
Before snapping LED signal cover into position, fish the wire from the LED
module down through the center pin of the hinge along side the factory wires which
power the mirrors. Lift up the big flat gasket up over the mounting studs but do not
completely remove - find the black and red turn indicator wires in the bottom part
of the hinge and grab with needle nose pliers. - Caution Do not pull tight! Leave
slack inside the new mirror cover and don't bend the metal pins at the ends of the
wires.

Step 4: Install LED mirror cover onto Mirror Assembly
After wires from LED cover have been routed through the Mirror Assembly, align
LED mirror cover with Mirror Assembly. Caution: Do not push on LED module.
First attach mounting point nearest the hinge and snap into place. With remaining
mounting points lined up, squeeze the clamshell towards the Mirror Assembly.
Apply pressure until the mounting points make connection. The LED Mirror cover
should have no gaps around the outside and be firmly attached.

Step 5: Insert pins from LED wires to male connector
At the ends of the supplied 4 foot sections of wire, you will find a male connector.
Remove the connector from the wire. The male connector only attaches to the 4
foot section of wire in one way. Note the positive / negative orientation of the
connector. - Line up the wires coming from the LED module with the 4 foot
extension wire, so that the red wire from LED module leads to the red wire of 4
foot extension, and the black wire from LED module leads to the black wire of 4
foot extension. Test orientation by snapping the male connector onto the 4 foot
extension wire to make sure it will connect correctly. Disengage male connector
after testing orientation. Once wire colors are aligned and connector is correctly
oriented, push the pins into the connector. Listen for a click to confirm the pins are
locked in place.

Feed the completed connector though the gasket where the factory wires run and
return gasket to its original position. Note: Gasket is clipped into position. It is not
glued Do with care to position properly.

Step 6: Remove side turn signal indicator assembly
As per owner's manual instructions, remove the side turn signal indicator, located
on the front fender, near the door hinge. Push firmly on the lens from front towards
the rear while gently prying outward on the front of the fixture with a inch width
flat blade screwdriver.

Step 7: Route 4 foot wire from LED module to side turn signal
The red and black 4 foot extension wire needs to be routed through the door and
fender to the side turn signal light. Start by feeding the stripped end of the four foot
wire through the outside of the door where the factory wires pass through the gray
foam to the inside of the door.

Open the door fully and unplug the black Connector located between the door
hinges
Using a right angle offset screwdriver remove the two # 2 Phillips screws on the
part of the plug in the door.
Gently pull
out. Fish the 4
foot wire from the Led mirror cover through the door.
Take a stiff wire, like a coat hanger, or #14 copper wire, and push up through the
rectangular hole that the plug occupied up to a " oval opening at the base of the
sail panel area. Tape the 4 foot extension wire end that has no connector to the now
exposed fishing wire. Pull the fishing wire down through the rectangular hole,
allowing 8 inches remaining at the top. Remove wire from fishing wire. Then use
wire wrap. This will protect the wire from abrasion in door opening area. Apply the
wire wrap so that an inch or so will be inside the door to protect the wire as it runs
under the plug and under the soft gasket. Note : Spiral Wrap - Start near one end
pull apart (Like extending a coil spring) and untwist slightly on each turn of the
wrap as if you were using electricians tape.

Replace this plug in the door while positioning the wrapped wire through the lower
corner of the opening farthest from you. Replace the upper screw and tighten
slightly next the lower screw add a washer under the gasket so there is no
pressure on the wire. Tighten upper and lower screws.

Next run the 4 foot extension wire with attached spiral wrap, behind the door hinge
and over the top of the wind guard.
Next attach
the wire with a black tie wrap to the back of the rubber tube to stabilize.
The 4 foot
extension wire is now available for connection at the side signal light, after testing
to see which wire supplies power to the LED turn signal in the mirror cover.

Step 8: Test Electrical Connection to LED Turn signal mirror cover.
To determine which side light wires to connect the red and black extension wires,
remove the side light module. Pull side light gently out of fender and remove about
two inches of the electrical tape on the two wires - unplug the side light by grasping
and pinching the stainless steel spring clip and pulling apart at the same time.
The LED turn signal will only work if wired correctly - to test the hookup -
temporarily plug in wires at the mirror - turn on the ignition to position 3 and
activate the corresponding turn signal and leave on Touch the black wire to one
side/terminal of the factory plug at the fender and the red to the other - if the
L.E.D.s do not blink then try it the other way - when you get the L.E.D.s blinking
then make a note of the wire colors for final hookup, turn off ignition and unplug
the small black connector at the mirror.

Step 9: Connect wires at sidelight
Refer to your test hookup notes and make the connection using the supplied wire
tap connectors - (Reminder: Squeeze the metal core with pliers, then close plastic
cover). Wrap securely with quality black electricians tape - then plug-in the side
light module and reinstall in fender.

Step 10: Reinstall the mirror assembly
Blue electrical connector must be fed through the hole in the door, which is
surrounded by foam. Plug in 4 foot extension wire for LED module.
Install the three - 8mm screws and leave loose -position assembly so that good
contact is being made at the bottom of the gasket. Then gently snug up the 3
screws. Blue connector needs to be attached to mirror assembly stud.
Install the sail panel by setting the bottom in position first then snapping in at the
top.
And that's it! I hope you enjoy this upgrade as much as I do.
