Terrafix is multifunctional
Terrafix is a versatile material and is used for a
wide range of functions including: single or multi-
lay ered geotextile filters, sand ballast mats, sand
containers or tubes and scour protection. Terrafix
nonwovens and sand mats act as separators and fil-
ters in hydraulic engineer ing applications such as
embankment construction, canal bed rehabilitation
and protection, and coastal works. Fabricated into
tubes, Terra fix can be used in harbour basin pro-
tection; Terrafix sand containers have been suc-
cess fully used in coastal and river bank protection.
Terrafix has high water permeabi lity, retains soil
and allows root growth so that bank protection
structures will blend unobtrusively with the natural
environ ment. Terrafix provides scour protection for
revetments, in waterways, around pillars and lon-
gitudinal and transverse hydraulic structures.
Terrafix is safe
More than 40 years of successful Terrafix nonwo-
ven geotextile applications in hydraulic engineer -
ing are proof of our high technical standards and
abilities. Tests carried out by the Federal Institute
for Waterways Engineering (Bundes anstalt fr Was-
serbau, BAW), as well as con tinuous manufacturing

means high efficiency. This adds up to significant
economic savings when compared to conventional
granular filters. Using Terrafix makes the extrac-
tion, transport, and installation of high cost and
labour-intensive sand and gravel filter layers unne-

Carbofol is multifunctional
Carbofol geomembranes provide a complete seal
against even the most toxic substances. Routinely
installed as a component of landfill base seals as
well as caps Carbofol protects groundwater from
contamination. Even the strictest regulations and
controls for the storage, filling, hand ling, manu-
facturing, treat ment and use of contaminated li-
quids, such as Germanys Water Conser vation Act
(WHG) and Britains Environ mental Pro tection Act
(EPA), are easily satis fied with Carbofol. The pro-
duct is also suitable for potable water and non-toxic
con tainment appli cations such as water conveyance
structures, canals or ponds. Indi vidual solutions can
also be developed for steeper slopes utilising our
structured-surface ma terial with higher friction co-
effi cients for greater safety.
Carbofol is safe
In 1989 Carbofol became the first geomembrane
certified by the Federal Institute for Material Te-
sting and Research (BAM). Currently, Carbofol
HDPE 507 (smooth and structured) 2.5 mm thick
are BAM certified for use in landfill engineering. For
ground wa ter pro tection appli cations, Carbo fol
geo membranes (2.0 mm) are certified by the Ger-
man Institute for Con struc tion Technology (DIBt)
and are of course also available according to GM
13 requirements. Fur ther international certificati-
ons for Carbofol have been issued in, amongst ot-
hers, most European countries. Extensive
manufacturing and third-party qua lity control allow
complete documentation of pro duc tion from the raw
material to the finished product. Carbofol is ex-
treme ly durable, and is both extremly che mically
and UV resis tant. Welding of seams and repairs is
done by state-of-the-art welding equipment which
records all per tinent data as welding is per formed.
Air pressure tests or va cuum tests verify the inte-
grity of the seams so you can be confident in the fi-
nished job.

Secutex is multifunctional
Secutex geotextiles are used in many fields of civil
engineering including hydraulic engineering, land-
fill engineering, road construc tion and tunnel con-
struction. As a separation layer, Secutex prevents
individual and distinct granular layers from conta-
minating one another. Thus, structural fill and base
courses maintain their integrity for a substantially
longer period of time than otherwise possible. When
fine soil layers are present next to drainage layers
on highway or railway con struct ion projects, Secu -
tex functions as a filter preventing fine soil parti-
cles from washing through and com promi sing the
drainage ability of the coarser layers. Displacement
of small amounts of water in problem areas is faci-
litated by the in-plane Secu tex transmissiv ity. Se-
cutex nonwoven geo textiles with a high mass per
unit area can also protect geomembranes or pipes
against mechanical damage. If necessary, a woven
geotextile can be integrated into the matrix of Se-
cutex to distribute dynamic loads and thus aug-
ment its protective abilities.
Secutex is safe
Secutex is recognised for its long-term filter sta-
bility and sepa ration performance. Its elongation
properties are extremely high such that a high re-
sistance to impacts and push-through loads is
achieved. For protection applications, Secu tex en-
sures the necessary factors of safety when manu-
factured with sufficient thickness. The mechanical
properties of Secutex - elongation, abrasion resi-
stance, plunger puncture resistance (CBR), and its
overall robustness - and our many years of experi-

Bentofix is multifunctional
Bentofix is an extremely versatile clay-based lining
product. Once hy dra ted, Bentofix is an effective bar-
rier against liquids, vapours, and gases. With near-
ly two decades of suc cessful installations, the ran-
ge of Bentofix applications is virtually limitless:
waste and contaminated soil caps; landfill base li-
ners; gas and vapour seals; sur face impoundment li-
ners; secon dary containment; dams, canals, and wa-
ter courses; tailings containment; groundwater pro-
tection; sorptive barriers; vertical barriers; water-
proofing.
Bentofix is safe
Strong and durable nonwoven geotextiles encapsu-
late and protect the layer of sodium bentonite en-
suring its long-term performance. And since Bento-
fix contains highest quality sodium bentonite, an
imme diate swelling following installation is ensured
to safely self-seal any unex pected mechanical da-
mages. Because of its immense elongation capaci-
ty, Bentofix shows a long-term adjustment to earth
deformations, such as differential settlements.
Steep slope applications are easily accommodated by
Bentofix. A unique fibre-bonding process locks the
needle-punched fibres into place creating high in-
ternal shear strength with unsurpassed creep resi-
stance. Bentofix also addresses the often critical
issue of interface friction angles. The mechanically
bonded nonwoven geotextiles provide the shear re-
sistance necessary for even the most demanding ap-
plications. This fibre reinforcement also prevents la-

Bentofix provides both economical and environ-
mental advantages. Since Bentofix is equivalent to
multiple lifts of compacted clay, it thereby increa-
ses the potential containment volume in landfills,
yielding additional revenues from tipping fees.
Bentofix instal lation is quick and easy; it is sim-
ply unrolled on site and overlapped at the joints. From
a logistical point of view, the advantages of Bento-
fix are also easy to see: one truckload of Bentofix
covers 4,000 m compared with only 40m (50 cm
thick) for a load of clay.

Field testing and sampling from completed clay-co-
vered areas are a thing of the past with Bentofix.
The manu facture and quality control laboratory pro-
gramme of Bentofix means it arrives on site with
the necessary test results, ready for installation. Com-
paction and moisture content testing are also eli-

Secudrain is multifunctional
Secudrain is used extensively to drain water or gas
in various applications. In landfill engineering, Se-
cudrain serves three functions at once (filtration,
protection and drainage) when installed directly abo-
ve a geomembrane. The ability of Secudrain to pas-
sively relieve water pressure makes it ideal for drai-
nage over buried structures and for road-edge strip-
drain applications. The fil ter geotextiles and the drai-
nage core can be efficiently dimensioned to meet the
required drainage capa city. Secudrain is also used
success fully as a drainage layer in the construction
of buildings, tunnels and roofs.
Secudrain is safe
Secudrain is properly dimen sioned durable and ro-
bust; it handles mechanical loads with ease. It is re-
sistant to all naturally occurring chemical and bio-
logical factors in the soil. The needle-punched non-
wovens long-term filter efficiency allows for safe de-
sign of passive drainage and thus ensures the sys -
tems longevity. The use of needle-punched non wo-
vens leads to a high interfacial friction angle, espe-
cially important on steep slopes. The regular bon-
ding between the geotextile and drainage core en-
sures transmission of shearing forces through the Se-

Secudrain is economical
Since the filter, drainage, and protection layer
comprise one unit, Secudrain can be installed ra-
pidly. The use of Secudrain in earth construction
requires less excava tion of in-situ material and, in
the case of a landfill liner, the containment vo lume
is increased. Using Secudrain saves time and na-
tural resources since 10,000 m of the Secudrain sy-
stem can replace the extraction, transport, and in-

Secumat is multifunctional
Secumat erosion control mats are used for slope
and ground protection in road building, landsca-
ping, and landfill engineering works. Water ways en-
gineering works employ Secumat on flood plains
and embankments. Properly dimensioned it prevents
the sliding and washing out of the soil and cover
layer while facilitating rapid vegetation growth.
Upon heavy rains and water flows, the reinforcing
ability of Secumat prevents erosion of the other-
wise vulnerable vegetation. Once vege tated, Secu-
mat reduces runoff velocities and thereby
increases infiltration and reduces discharge. Directly
next to water courses, Secumat protects the banks
from the scouring action of water flow.
Secumat is safe
The open structure of Secumat allows soil filling
over its entire area and depth. Secumat thus re-
tains surface water and prevents erosion. Root de-
velopment is supported by the three-dimensional

Secumat is economical
The light Secumat rolls enable a rapid and inex-
pensive installation. They can be filled precisely
using a minimum quantity of soil. The Secumat sy-
stem can be deployed even on steep slopes stabili-
sing otherwise expensive to repair erosion-prone
areas.
Secumat is simple
Directly following installation, Secumat is fully
functional. In steep slope areas Secumat can be
secured with staples or pegs. Once the open struc-
ture has been filled with topsoil, vegetation takes
hold. Secumat is also easy to handle and store on
site.

Secugrid
is a structurally sound and stable geogrid for soil reinforcement, manufactured of extruded
and drawn bars, laid and welded solid together.
Secugrid is multifunctional
Secugrid geogrids provide tensile reinforcement for
base courses in railway and highway foundation
engineering, steep sided soil em bank ments and re-
taining walls, foundation reinforcement of earth
embankments, load transfer of overlying soil mas-
ses, spanning voids and sink holes, sludge lagoon
closures, trench covers and beds. With the available

Secugrid is economical
Engineering system solutions using Secugrid geo-
grids can save natural mineral resources by reducing
base course thickness for pavements. For this ap-
plication a calculation disk can be requested to de-
termine the right Secugrid type. As Secugrid is
easy to handle, large quantities can be installed
quickly with minimal demand on labour resources
and lower installation costs.

Combigrid is multifunctional
Combigrid combines all the re quirements of a va-
riety of properties in one single product. For this
reason, the main area of use for Combigrid is on
weak subsoils where, in addition to reinforcement,
filter and separating properties are required. As a
rule, this means subsoils with a CBR value of less
than 3 %. Thus, the areas of application for Combi-
grid are to be found in the reinforcement of base
courses, foundations, access roads, pipeline tren-
ches and throughout the road building sector. The
range of products available incorporates different
degrees of tensile strength and nonwoven compo-
nents and covers a variety of applications. Combi-
grid is thus an all-purpose product for universal
applications.
Combigrid is safe
It is available in polypropylene (PP) or in polyester
(PET), depen ding on project requirements. It is
suitable for the use in all natural environments.
