Topic Proposal: Improvement of specialized healthcare training
Statement of Purpose (Thesis):
The purpose of this project is to show that not only healthcare has improved but also the
specialized training needed for certain occupations. As technology improves, so does society as a
whole and it has affected the training needed for students to become healthcare workers. It
affects future CRNAs who are specialized in giving anesthesia have new forms of practice,
phlebotomist, specialized in taking blood, have previously practiced intramuscular penetration
with peeled oranges and uncooked hotdogs by learning where to insert the needle, more recently
however they have a test dummy arm that is similar to human skin, and it also shows the
anatomy of the arm of itself showing where veins and arteries are to actually see where to insert
the needle. Future combat medics are trained under simulated combat with various scenarios and
are expected to perform under extraneous situations some procedures are intubation, IVs, blood
transfusions, and other procedures.
Background:
My personal experience is that when I had surgery a student in training was observing,
and this was the only time he observed a procedure being performed on a minor. On a visit to
some colleges I was shown a simulator patient that can mimic any symptoms that the
professors program it to show, such as cardiac arrest, in need of CPR, and even simulate the

birthing process. When I was shown this I pondered to myself if this was always available for
students to train and to practice. My brothers, when they were younger had their immunizations
done with jagged plastic rather than a sterile needle and it left them both with scars. My brothers
are only 17 and 10 years older than me.
Significance:
The reason why this is important is to show how healthcare has improved over the years
with more new and modern technology and how it has adapted to an ever changing society, and
to show that not only procedures, techniques, and patient care has improved, but also the training
needed to be licensed or certified as a RN, CRNA, CNA and so on. The research will attempt to
answer the following questions, How has healthcare improved over time as technology has
improved? How has the training changed with more new and advanced methods of
practice?
Description:
The research I will be conducting will be through the use of books, the internet, and also I
will interview a few healthcare workers. My research interviews likely be one of the first things I
do first and the remaining research will be conducted throughout the remaining fall semester as I
am able to utilize the time.
Methodology:
My sources will be my health science book for recent procedures, and older books I can
manage to find. The internet by researching how procedures are done recently, and I plan on
interviewing a few health care workers, such as my teacher, Mrs. Carolle, perhaps Mrs. Hodge if

I manage to get ahold on her. First I plan on to research books to see how procedures have been
performed in previous years, next I plan on interviewing the workers to see if they have seen any
changes first hand. Finally I plan on the internet to see if there have been any more new practices
installed in say the last few months.
Terms: original, compare and contrast, previous, modern, improved
Problems:
Problems Im anticipating are too many sources to narrow down the information, too
specific information, outdated websites, counter methods of procedures. I may be searching too
many sites to be able to verify that the information is legit. More problems Im anticipating are
homework for other classes such as Calculus with Floyd, practicing my skills in nursing, and of
course government economics with Mr. Fry. Another problem I have is limited time I have due
to the fact that I wake up at 5:30 am to prepare for school, and I have marching band practice
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Friday night football games, and of course Saturday band
competitions which take all day from 7AM until after the awards ceremony witch is roughly at
9PM and then there is the ride back home. Work which is half of Sunday then the cycle restarts
on Monday.
