The corrosion resistance required from an
anchor will depend on the location of the
fixing and the surrounding environment.
To enable the designer to select an
appropriate fixing for the conditions, Hilti
produce several anchors in a choice of
materials, to suit a range of environments.
The usual basic coating for most Hilti
anchors is electro-galvanised (zinc plated)
to 5 mm. This coating gives some degree
of protection but is most suitable in dry,
indoor conditions.
Improved resistance can be provided by
Hot-dip galvanising or equivalent
mechanical processes. The Galvanised
Finish Symbol indicates that such a
superior coating is available.
All stainless steel anchors stocked by Hilti
(Aust) are of superior quality A4 (SS 316)
stainless steel. It offers significantly better
corrosion protection than A2 stainless
steels offered by some manufacturers.
Materials in the A4 group (stainless steel)
or those of a higher quality should be used
for fastenings exposed to a greater risk of
corrosion, such as those in town air,
industrial atmosphere, coastal climate and
in road construction.
Corrosion & chemical attack
Fire resistance
When subject to high temperatures, as in
fire, the properties of both the anchor and
the surrounding base material are
degraded. In order to provide customers
with appropriate information for fixings
which are to be used in situations where
they cannot be protected from the
possibility of fire, Hilti carries out
independent fire tests to international
standards on a range of anchors.
These assessments and performance
ratings are available on request
through your local Hilti Field Engineer.
For normal requirements, stainless steel
A4 grade has a high resistance to
corrosion. In chemically aggressive
environments even A4 has difficulty
maintaining its mechanical integrity.
Tunnels, indoor swimming pools, facilities
exposed to sea water, water treatment
plants and chemical/power plants would
all fit into this category. Hilti have
developed a range of anchor products so
that fastening solutions can be offered in
these corrosive environments.
The material, HCR, is a chromium-nickel
steel alloy with a high molybdenum
content. The HAS-HCR rods have similar
mechanical properties and performance
to the A4 HAS-R versions. Details are
given in the product information pages.

Base Material
The wide variety of building materials
used today provide different anchoring
conditions for anchors. There is hardly a
base material in or to which a fastening
cannot be made with a Hilti product.
However, the properties of the base
material play a decisive role when
selecting a suitable fastener/anchor and
determining the load it can hold.
Hilti can supply anchors suitable for
fixing to concrete, hollow and solid
masonry, aerated concrete, lightweight
concrete, and drywall or plasterboard.
In addition a large variety of other base
materials (eg. stone) can be
encountered in practice. Generally
fastenings can be made to these
materials, but these cases should be
referred to a Hilti Field Engineer.

Setting equipment for HIS-N, HIS-RN internally threaded sleeves
This HIS-S simple setting tool is screwed into the HIS-N, HIS-RN sleeve. A socket drive is then placed over the setting
tool (same size as HAS rod) and using an appropriate shaft, the sleeves are set using a Hilti rotary hammer.

Specifications
Hilti Saferings and fixing systems are designed to comply with the
requirements of BS 5845, AS 1891, AS 2317, AS 4626 & AS 4488.2, the
standard specification for permanent anchors used in association with
industrial safety belts and harnesses. As a quality check each Safe ring is
proof loaded to 10kN after manufacture. After installation each anchorage
must be subjected to a mandatory test in which the anchors are
proof loaded to a force of 7.5kN as per AS/NZS 1891.4, or 6 kN as per
AS/NZS 4488.2

Dynamic set washers for
HVU and HDA
For upgrading shear resistance and
improving dynamic resistance
By using the dynamic set for static fastenings, the shear resistance is
improved significantly.
The unfavourable situation that only one row of anchors takes up the
entire load no longer exists
and the load is distributed uniformly between all anchors.
The Dynamic Set is available in zinc plated finish for M10/12/16/20/24
HVU and HDA anchors, and in stainless steel for M10/12/16/20, on request
subject to lead time.
Features
Injection washer: Fills clearance hole and thus guarantees that
the load is uniformly distributed among all anchors
Spherical washer: reduces bending moment acting on anchor
shaft not set at right angles and thus increases the tensile
loading capacity
Lock nut: Prevents loosening of the nut and thus lifting of the
anchoring plate away from the concrete in case of cyclic loading

HSC safety anchor with
automatic undercutting
The HSC anchor produces its own undercut when set. The undercut is
produced simultaneously when driving the anchor sleeve over the anchor
