WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
Health-related factors, such as hunger, chronic illness,
or physical and emotional abuse, can lead to poor
school performance.
More than 1 in 3 youth ages 10 to 17 in Oklahoma are
overweight or obese.
More than 8 in 10 high school students eat too few
vegetables and fruits.
More than 1 in 8 high school students did not get
enough physical activity per day and almost 1 in 3
students watched more than 3 hours of TV per day.
More than 1 in 10 high school students smoked
cigarettes and 1 in 20 used smokeless tobacco in the
past 30 days.

Launched in 2010
Complements six other Certified Healthy
programs: businesses, campuses, communities,
congregations, early childhood programs, and
restaurants
Recognizes schools that make health a priority
for faculty, staff, and students

SCHOOL CLASSIFICATION

Schools sites of all sizes are encouraged to apply.
Public or private institutions
Other Opportunities:
School district administrative offices can apply to
become Certified Healthy Businesses.
Institutions of higher education, including career
technology centers, can apply to become a
Certified Healthy Campus, and their administrative
offices may also apply to become a Certified
Healthy Business.

Recipients are invited to a special recognition awards
event.

to apply for an incentive grant through TSET.

SCORING

Applicants do not compete with other schools
within their category.
Certification is solely based on number of criteria
obtained in each section.

In order to be considered the School District must:
Have at least 1 Certified Healthy School in the District
Adopt required health promoting policies
Apply for a Healthy District Incentive Grant

In order to be considered the School Site must:
Be a Certified Healthy School
Be a part of a School District that received a Healthy
School District Incentive Grant
Adopt required heath promoting policies
Apply for a Healthy School Incentive Grant
