Unfriending
To most of us Facebook friendship is
fleeting and borderline meaningless.
But that doesn't mean rejection and
betrayal don't sting when you are
unfriended (which by the way, is not a
real word It's something that stuck on,
just like Facebook itself!).
Getting dumped is horrible, painful, and
guaranteed to happen. And here's is
Sblog's fix on how to handle a
devastating digital breakup.
Factors to consider
It's possible you're really goddamn
annoying on Facebook - lots of stupid
shared "joke pictures," confrontational
political statements, mundane checkins - in which case, who can blame
anyone for unfriending you? You're a
terrible friend. Friends should be
interesting. Why weren't you more
interesting? You brought this upon
yourself, and now everyone is running
away from you. Start being better and
you'll start making friends. That's your
best shot.
But let's say you're just a regular guy
being cool on Facebook - posting the
occasional fun photo, insightful link,
amusing status update, thoughtful
birthday wishes. You manage your
Timeline like a pro! You're a good
person, and a good Facebook Friend.
And, someone still unfriends you. You
have reason to be offended. When
friendship means so, so precious little,
taking the time to click enough to
remove someone from your list of fake
friends is hugely insulting. You're
beneath fake friendship. Someone
doesn't even want to see your name
written down on an LCD screen. You're
repulsive to them. Unfriending on
Facebook is like being kicked out of the
You
Unfriending is healthy
It's a normal, perfectly rational thing
people do on Facebook all the time.
Most of your hundreds of Facebook
friends aren't actually your friends,
because it's emotionally impossible for
a single person to have hundreds of

unfriended might be someone simply
waking up and recognizing the
absurdity Facebook thrusts us into.
They're just attempting to rectify it, using
features built into said social network.
And yet...We're all petty enough to care.

VOICE OF KINNAIRD
After the success of Pink Rock and KC
Idol, the council of K.C staged the much
awaited Voice of Radio Kinnaird. This
was another milestone achieved by the
council. The student body immersed
themselves in the dazzling world of
music where their own fellows got a
chance to perform and showcase their
exemplary singing talents. It started off
with nerve cracking week of auditions
and recording at radio Kinnaird 97.6.
During the entire week every corner of
KC was echoing with instruments. You
could hear sounds of all types of music
being played.
Like any other competition few lucky girls
managed to squeeze themselves into
the finals. They got that great opportunity
of performing in front of some Junaid
Khan (Call The Band), Gohar
Mumtaz(Jal) and Ali Aftab (of Begairat
Brigade). The event started with the line
"Stay Calm and Enjoy Music". Every
participant gave their best shot to toast
their victory but it ended up with Hafsah
Gillani taking the trophy. Hafsah is a
multi-talented girl, really good at guitars
and singing. The council worked really
hard to organize the event and did an
amazing job. (by mahrukh ghouri)

Zainab Hamid
Zainab Hamid was born in
Karachi, Pakistan, before she
moved to Brighton, UK at the age
of three. She lived there until the
age of about ten, and then moved
back to Pakistan and joined
K a r a c h i G r a mm a r S c h o o l .
Currently, Zainab is in eleventh
grade, in her last year of O' Levels.
As far as debating goes, Zainab
started debating almost a year ago.
During Middle School, she hadn't
been very lucky with the debates try
outs, but when she tried out last
year she got into the under
nineteen team as an observer. The
same year, she spoke at the under
seventeen nationals, where she was
ranked as the best speaker. Zainab
recalls this moment as one which
she will never forget during her
debating career. I remember my
very first speech at the preparation
camp before the nationals, which
was not very good. After a while I
got better, and when given the
opportunity in the under seventeen
nationals, I was really able to hone
my skills and managed to get the
best speaker award. Around the
same time, Zainab found out that
the top ten speakers from the
nationals were going to be eligible
to be part of the team that would
represent Pakistan at KPDC.
Zainab recalls her experience at
KPDC saying, My experience at
Mexico made for one of the best
trips of my life. Pakistan had never
sent a team to the world youth
forum, so this was the first time. To
go for the first time, and leave a
mark like we hope we did, is truly
amazing. But, one thing that I will
never forget is the people I met, and
the time I shared with them. We
met people from all over the world,
from Estonia, to Canada, from
Argentina to Eg ypt. Meeting
children from the Tunisian and
Egyptian teams, was definitely an
eye opening experience for me, as I
was able to receive first hand
insight regarding the Arab Spring.
She further adds, We're so happy

Mostly No Well done, youre honest with yourself about how healthy
you are. Keep aiming for a balanced diet and try to exercise at least
three times a week.
Mostly Yes Er, youre not living healthily! you only get one body heres how to treat it well:
1 Dont deny yourself treats but cut down on them and increase your
fruit and veg intake instead.
2 Aim to be active for an hour a day. Take advantage of games
lessons, sports clubs and walking to college.

I'M REALL INTO YOU. Run your hands through your hair,
but turn your palm outwards towards your crush. This small
tricky gesture makes your body more open, which signals
that you're receptive to their attention. (Just don't overdo it,
or you'll seem fidgety.)
Reader rule
While you are dancing at a mehndi or a party, look
your crush in the eye, smile and raise your eyebrows a
little bit almost like you're inviting them to come
closer. It works like a charm! Rohail Lashari, 21

Coke Studio 5
This season Coke Studio came back as
good as ever. While promoting up and
comers like Bohemia, Qayaas and
Uzair Jaswal, they also brought back
featured artists like Meesha Shafi,
Farhad Humayun, Atif Aslam and many
more. As always there was also a fusion
with great traditional artists like, The
Chakwal Group, Hamayoon Khan,
Fareed Ayaz, Abu Muhammad, among
others. With the fifth season, there were
a bunch of hits followed by a few misses
as well. The songs were more
experimental this time around, and
more promising at the same time.
Meesha Shafi's breathe taking version
of Dasht-e-Tanhayi and Atif Aslam's
collaboration with Qayaas on Charkha
Nolakha were the highlight of the
season. Uzair Jaswal and the rest of the
new comers did manage to win over a
new range of audience and established
ground for new comers on such a main
stream platform.

The Reluctant
Fundamentalist
So the turning
books into films
formula has been
going strong for
quite some time
now. Very recently,
one of our favorite
local books by
Mohsin Hamid, The Reluctant
Fundamentalist, has been turned into
a feature film that has been receiving
raving reviews at every film festival
screening.
For those of you who haven't read this
gem of a book already, The Reluctant
Fundamentalist is about a young
Pakistani man's, Changez, in a post9/11 identity crisis. Set in the streets of
the old city of Lahore, the story is a
narration of Changez' loss of love and
life in American, in one evening to an
American stranger. Changez recounts
his rise from Ivy League darling to Wall
Street analyst, as well as his love for a
beautiful but troubled woman, their
brief affair serving as a blunt metaphor
for his rapidly evolving relationship
with America itself in the wake of the
September 11 attacks.
Despite some critic's confusion of the
reluctant fundamentalism or the plot of
the story, the film has managed to
receive positive reviews from many at
the Venice and the Toronto Film
Festival:
Time Magazine praised it as a "tense,
thoughtful and truly international" film
that "raises questions meant to test
America's conscience". Variety said
the film "saddles itself with a laborious
narrative structure and half-baked
thriller elements". But the Hollywood
Reporter described it as "a seriousminded film whose politics demand
soul-searching and attention".
For those of you who are not familiar
with Mohsin Hamid or his books (and I
highly doubt there are many), should
hit the book stores for a copy of the
Reluctant Fundamentalist before the
film hits the theaters.
Silk by Fawad Khan was the outfit for this Eid for
all girls out there. Breaking away from the lawn
frenzy, Fawad Khan and his wife, Sadaf Fawad
Khan ventured into ready-to-wear printed and
embroided outfits in silk. The line consists of bright
in season colors, such as yellow, orange,
burgundy, black, pink, violet and more. The entire range is based on trending
fashion statements, such as color blocking, and very young and hip cuts and
silhouettes. Fawad describes the brand in an interview saying; If you look at high
end retail brands in the west it's all about being clean and classy; that's what we
wanted to bring here. Usually, the general practice is to overdo the embellishment
but we concentrate on the material, stitching and the classy look. So if you
haven't gotten your hands on a Silk piece as yet, go to their online store or one of
their three outlets in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad before they run out of the
must have outfit of the year!

Retro Mania is an
interesting and chic kurta
collection, by a recent
graduate of Pakistan
Institute of Fashion and
Design (PIFD), Zoya Butt.
This line consists of all the
latest trends, colors and
cuts. And to top it all, some
of these designs have our favorite Rickshaw
catch phrases printed on them, such as
Muuch nahi tey kuch nahi, Touch but not
too much and daikh magar pyar saye.
Along with these, you'll find funky items like
cupcakes, mustaches and owls embroided
on some of the pieces as well. Zoya
explains the line more clearly in a recent
interview saying, I want to be a part of a
revolutionary new fashion culture in
Pakistan. This serves as another piece
going into that picture. Each and every
design that I have created for this exhibition
is a tribute to a memory or an event that has
inspired me to make these pieces. Retro
