TIME TO GET THE #X OUT AND
HELP END TEXTING WHILE DRIVING IN NEW J ERSEY
AT&T Works to Raise Awareness, Help Provide Solutions for Texting and Driving
Trenton, NJ (September 18, 2014) As part of AT&Ts September 19 nationwide day
of action, AT&T today called on all New Jerseyans to join together to address a dangerous
practice that puts millions of Americans at risk: texting while driving.
For the first time this year, New Jerseyans can text their pledge to never text and drive.
Individuals can text the keyword icwnj to 464329. The pledge and the text are free.
In addition to developing the text-to-pledge feature and sharing information about the
campaign with It Can Wait advocates cross the Garden State, AT&T also is sponsoring the 4th
Annual Stop For Nikhil 5K Run/Walk to remember those who died and to honor those who have
been seriously injured in motor vehicle crashes. The event will be held at West Orange High
School on Sunday, September 21st. The Nikhil Badlani Foundation was established in July
2011 to honor the memory of 11-year-old Nikhil Badlani, who was killed in a car accident on
June 11, 2011, when a driver ran a stop sign. Learn more here.
Earlier this month, seniors at Burlington County Institute of Technology in Medford, NJ,
took part in a special assembly that featured Phillies third baseman Cody Asche, who talked
about the dangers of texting and driving.
AT&T and Asche presented to students the very powerful documentary From One
Second to the Next, which shares heartbreaking stories of real life people whose lives have
been tragically affected by texting and driving accidents. Asche and students also had the
opportunity to drive the texting and driving simulator to get a life-like idea of just how
dangerous texting and driving is.
