Pumpend
Pumpend components comprise the Front Cover with Suction Flange, Front
Wearplate, Impeller, Rear Wearplate, Pump Casing (Volute), Non Return Valve
assembly and Discharge Flange. The Suction Flange provides the connection of
external piping to the source to be pumped. The impeller provides the centrifugal
energy to move the pumped product through the volute and out through the
discharge flange. The Non Return Valve prevents recirculation of product back into
the pump. Configuration of these components is illustrated in Figure 2.

Priming System
Priming System components create the suction required to draw product to the pump
components. It consists of an Ejector assembly, Air Separation tank, internal Non
Return Ball Valve, and Air Compressor. The Compressor is operated, via a timing
belt, from the pump shaft driven by the engine.
During a priming sequence, compressed air flows through a venturi nozzle within the
ejector that creates a vacuum in the separation tank, lifting the valve ball, evacuating
the pump and suction piping to deliver product to the Pumpend. A screen beneath the
valve ball prevents entry of solids or debris that may obstruct actuation of the valve
ball during priming and operation.

The priming system operates continuously while the pump is running whether or
not product is available at the suction end thus allowing continuous, unassisted
operation. Pump will automatically re-prime when product becomes available.
Engine
The CD100M utilizes a John Deere 3015D diesel engine as the prime mover of the
pump. The engine is supplied complete with radiator, alternator, fuel pump, and air
intake assemblies installed at the factory. A taperlock coupling mounted on the
flywheel of the engine is connected to the pump shaft. A panel mounted on the
engine contains the controls and gauges used in operation of the pump (see
Operating Controls in the following). Diesel fuel is supplied to the fuel pump from
an integral tank contained in the trailer.
Motor Adaptor Assembly
Power is transmitted from the engine to the impeller through a shaft, bearings, and
mechanical seal housed in a Motor Adaptor Assembly bolted to the Pumpend. The
CD100M shaft is mounted on tapered roller bearings, grease lubricated.
Configuration and components of this assembly are shown in Figure 3.

Operating Controls
The CD100M Pump is operated from a Control Panel mounted on the engine drive
unit and valves located on the pump casing. Controls and locations are shown in
Figure 4. Descriptions of each control are provided in the following.
Oil pressure and coolant temperature controls include a Safety Shutdown feature that
halts engine operation when either sufficient oil pressure is not available or coolant
temperature is excessive. Setpoints for shutdown are adjustable via movable

The following describes the typical operation of the CD100M Pump. Actual operation,
however, may differ according to specific applications, operating procedures, and
other conditions in effect at a particular facility.
Prior to operation, the pump is connected to suction intake and discharge output lines
at each corresponding flange of the Pumpend. The engine can then be started using
the ignition keyswitch and safety shutdown bypass switch. Upon starting, the
compressor delivers air to the nozzle of the ejector assembly. High velocity air travels
through the venturi to create a vacuum within the air separation tank of the priming
system. Evacuation of the tank raises the ball valve in the tank, further evacuating the
pump casing and suction lines.
Atmospheric pressure causes liquid at suction inlet to rise through the suction lines to
the pump. Rotation of the impeller within the pump propels liquid through the pump to
the discharge. Pressure from the pumped liquid opens the non return valve, allowing
liquid to empty through discharge lines.
Pumping continues, unassisted and without operator intervention, until no more liquid
is available at the suction inlet. Resulting loss in pressure closes the non return valve,
preventing recirculation of liquid back into the pump. If pump is left running, it will
automatically re-prime when additional liquid becomes available at the suction inlet.

Engine Supplies
The Model 3015D engine that drives the pump requires diesel fuel, lubrication oil,
filters (oil & fuel), and radiator coolant for operation. Use the following guidelines
when supplying these items.
Diesel Fuel Consult your local fuel distributor for properties of
the diesel fuel available in your area. In general,
diesel fuels are blended to satisfy the low
temperature requirements of the geographical area
in which they are marketed. Diesel fuels specified to
EN 590 or ASTM D975 are recommended. In all
cases, the fuel shall meet the following properties:
Cetane Number of 40, minimum. Cetane
number greater than 50 preferred, especially
for temperatures below - 4 F (-20 C) or
elevations above 5000 ft (1500 m).
Cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP) below the
expected low temperature or Cloud Point at
least 9 F (5 C) below the expected low
temperature
Fuel Lubricity should pass a minimum of 3100
gram load level as measured by the BOCLE
scuffing test.
Sulfur Content. Sulfur content should not
exceed 0.5%. Sulfur content less than 0.05%
is preferred. If diesel fuel with sulfur content
greater than 0.5% is used, reduce the service

This section presents information about positioning and installing your CD100M
Pump. Careful attention paid during the installation process will result in safer, more
efficient, and more effective use of the equipment.
Because of the variety of environments and circumstances in which the CD100M
Pump can operate, only minimal site requirements are necessary for installing the
pump. When selecting a site for the pump, the following should be considered:
Select a site as close as possible to the source to be pumped with a relatively
straight path between the source and suction inlet of the pump.
Choose a site that is relatively flat and on firm ground.
Be aware of re-fueling requirements of the pump when selecting a site.
Consider the pumps total, loaded weight when selecting hoisting equipment
to be used for final installation.
Lay out piping runs before installation for unrestricted movement of product
during pumping. Recommended piping connections are shown in Figure 7.
This equipment creates diesel exhaust which may present a safety hazard.
Consider appropriate forms of ventilation when selecting a site for installation.

100 Hour Break-In Maintenance
If equipment is new and engine-hour meter displays 100 hours or less, use the
following to perform initial Break-In maintenance. This engine is factory filled with
a specially formulated Break-In Oil for use when the engine is new. Operate the
engine at heavy loads with minimal idling during the break in period.
If the engine has significant operating time at idle, constant speeds, and/or light load
usage, or makeup oil is required in the first 100 hour period, a longer break-in period
may be required. In these situations, an additional 100 hour break-in period is
recommended using a new change of the manufacturers (John Deere) Engine
Break-In Oil and a new oil filter.
!!! IMPORTANT !!!
DO NOT add makeup oil until the oil level is BELOW the ADD mark on dipstick. Only
the manufacturers Engine Break-In Oil (John Deere TY22041) should be used to
make up any oil consumed during the break-in period.
Check engine oil level more frequently during engine break-in period. If oil must be
added during this period, John Deere Engine Break-In Oil is preferred.
!!! IMPORTANT !!!
DO NOT fill above the crosshatch pattern or the FULL mark on the dipstick. Oil levels
anywhere within the crosshatch are considered in the acceptable operating range.
During the first 20 hours, avoid prolonged periods of engine idling or sustained
maximum load operation. If engine will idle longer than 5 minutes, stop engine.
After the first 100 hours (maximum), change engine oil and replace engine oil filter.
A procedure to change engine oil & filter is contained in a subsequent section of
this manual.
250 Hour Preventative Maintenance
The following should be performed on periodic, 250 Hour intervals for continued,
reliable operation of the pump. Corresponding Service Procedures involved in this
maintenance is included in the Service Procedures section of this manual.
The Appendix of this manual contains a 250 Hour Maintenance Checklist that can
be used to document and record that pump maintenance was performed.
1. Refer to engine hour meter to determine if maintenance is required. If due for 250
hour servicing, turn pump off, remove pump from service, and disconnect all

Major service areas of the pump include checking for proper clearances between
pump impeller and wearplates, servicing the Non Return Valve, and, if necessary,
replacing/rebuilding the Mechanical Seal or the Bearing Assembly.
Checking Impeller & Wearplate Clearance
Clearance between the rotating impeller and front/rear wearplates can greatly affect
the operating efficiency of the pump. Inadequate clearance will cause premature
wear of pump components. Excessive clearance will decrease pumping volume
and efficiency. The pump is factory adjusted for a clearance of 0.025" between
the impeller and wearplates, but this clearance should be checked at indicated
maintenance interval. Use the following to check impeller/wearplates clearances.
Figure 10 illustrates this procedure.

3. If clearance needs to be increased (i.e., too tight) or reduced (too loose), refer
to the following procedure to change (see Adjusting Impeller/Wearplate
Clearance).
4. Remove front cover housing of pump by removing the retaining bolts around
outside edge of housing. Set front Cover aside when done.
!!! IMPORTANT !!!
Front cover is heavy and may require two people or hoisting equipment to remove.
5. With Front Cover removed, check for clearance between impeller and rear
wearplate. Be sure to check all the way around. If clearance needs to be
changed, refer to the following procedure.
Adjusting Impeller/Wearplate Clearance
Adjusting Impeller clearance between wearplates involves adding or removing
gaskets between the front cover and pump body (front wearplate clearance), or
adding/removing shims between the impeller and shaft (rear wearplate clearance).
This procedure is described in the following.
1. Determine where clearance to be adjusted.
2. If front wearplate clearance is too great, remove gasket between front cover and
volute. Remove only one gasket at a time if more than one are present and
recheck for proper clearance.
3. If front wearplate clearance is less than 0.025", install gasket between front cover
and volute. Install only one gasket at a time and recheck clearance.
4. If impeller/rear wearplate clearance is too great, remove shims between shaft
and impeller. (See Pumpend Dismantling/Overhaul for impeller removal
instructions.)
5. If clearance is less than 0.025", install shims between shaft and impeller.
6. Recheck both front and rear clearance before reassembling. Note details in

!!! WARNING !!!
This procedure involves access to operating parts of the pump. Accidental startup
may cause injury. Disconnecting battery will reduce the chance of accidental
startup.
1. Before installing seal, make sure any sharp edges or burrs are removed and area
is free of foreign matter.
2. Retract Set Screws from Sleeve assembly to avoid scratching shaft when
disassembling. Carefully slide Sleeve assembly along shaft until it butts up
against shaft collar.
3. Carefully remove Rotary Head and O-Ring from assembly (see Figure 15). Do
not place Rotary Head face down. This may damage lapped seal face.
4. Tighten Set Screws gradually to center Sleeve on Shaft. Make sure Sleeve is still
adjoining shaft shoulder and fully tighten Set Screws.
5. Coat O-Ring with a silicon-based grease lubricant. Position O-Ring inside Rotary
Head. Avoid getting any lubricant onto lapped seal face.
6. Gently push Rotary Head onto Sleeve Assembly. Ensure that Drive Pins
engage into Rotary Head.
7. Clean lapped seal face with suitable degreasing agent and soft, lintless cloth.
8. Install seal seat and O-ring with circlip into rear wearplate.
9. Replace impeller onto shaft and reinstall Impeller locking bolt. Ensure a
clearance of 0.025" between rear wearplate and impeller (see Checking Impeller
& Wearplate Clearance).
10. Replace pump body and gaskets (if used) for proper clearance between impeller
and front wearplate.
11. Reassemble pumpend in reverse order and reinstall. When finished, refill
mechanical seal housing with oil (see Checking/Replacing Mechanical Seal
Oil). Housing must be filled completely. Perform vacuum pad test to check for
correct suction pressure.
12. Note Seal Replacement date/details in service log.
Bearing Assembly Servicing
If, during troubleshooting, a failure of the Bearing Assembly is indicated, dismantle

1. Ensure that any sharp edges or burrs are removed and all parts are clean and
free from foreign matter.
2. Heat both bearings to a maximum temperature of 250F (121C) using a
temperature controlled bearing induction heater or other bearing preheater. Once
the bearing races have reached the desired temperature, slide them on the shaft
so that the taper is pointing toward the ends of the shaft and the bearing races
sit hard against the shaft shoulders. Hold the bearing races in position for a
minimum of 30 seconds. This will allow the races to grip the shaft and prevent
them from creeping away from the shoulder during cooling. Allow the assembly to
cool completely.
!!! IMPORTANT!!!
Bearing races should always be pressed into position and not hammered.
Hammering bearing races into position will result in early bearing failure.
3. Install race in wet end and check for fit. It should not turn easily.
4. Hand pack the bearing rollers and inner races with grease.
5. Refit wet end lip seal collar and lip seal, ensuring that, after initial fitting, the lip
seal collar is pressed hard back against the retaining circlip. This will prevent
excess movement in the final bearing assembly.
6. Install shaft in drive end. Install drive end race. Fit drive end lip seal cover with no
shims. Hand tighten just until the shaft locks. Be careful not to overtighten as this
could cause the bearing cover to crack. Tap both ends of shaft with soft hammer
to seat the bearings.
7. Remove drive end bearing cover and install lip seal.
!!! IMPORTANT !!!
When fitting lip seal covers, retaining screws must be tightened evenly. Uneven
tightening will cause the equipment to crack
8. Using a dial indicator positioned against the end face of the wet end of the shaft,
measure the end float of the shaft. For standard pumps, adjust the drive end lip
seal cover to achieve 0.0002 - 0.0003" (0.050 - 0.075mm) end float of the shaft.
For Stainless Steel pumps, adjust lip seal cover to 0.0004 - 0.0005" (0.100 -
0.125mm) end float. Note: each time you adjust the shim, you must re-seat
the bearings.
9. Rotate the shaft assembly by hand about a dozen times to ensure free movement.
10. Grease the motor adaptor assembly using the external grease nipple until the
cavity fills and grease starts to emerge from the grease relief fitting.
11. Check that the final assembly rotates freely.
12. Reassemble Pumpend in reverse order and reinstall. When finished, refill me-
chanical seal housing with oil (see Checking/Replacing Mechanical Seal Oil).
Housing must be filled completely. Perform vacuum pad test to check for correct
suction pressure.
13. Note Bearing Assembly Replacement date/details in service log.
