realizado por Muñoz en
colaboración con Julio Ruiz
Olmos y Juan Vidal que
introdujo por primera vez el
muro cortina en el contexto
de la arquitectura
alicantina. En "La Cristalera",
el uso de una superficie
continua de metal y vidrio
de color azul se enriquece
con referencias históricas
siguiendo la estela de Philip
Jonson y de su edificio para
At&T de Nueva York (1978),
así como la tradición
visionaria de Casto
Fernández-Shaw. El
proyecto, en el que Muñoz
Llorens y el también
arquitecto Pascual Genovés
invirtieron cinco años y
multitud de viajes en busca
de ideas (Francia, Suiza,
Alemania y Holanda fueron
algunos de los destinos), se
vio profundamente alterado
cuando, a raíz de la fusión
bancaria que lo convirtió en
sede central de la nueva
Caja de Ahorros del
Mediterráneo, su amplio
vestíbulo se cerró para crear
oficinas.
En definitiva, la trayectoria
de Francisco Muñoz,
fácilmente etiquetable a
vista de pájaro, se nos
revela inasequible a la hora
de establecer criterios de
pureza o ejemplaridad. La
suya es una obra ecléctica,
en la que las tendencias se
superponen y la historia se
decanta sobre un poso de
modernidad. La solución
resultante no olvida los
ingredientes de la buena
arquitectura, como son
programa, técnica, estética
y lugar, ni la voluntad
creadora del arquitecto,

aunque su producción se
vea conscientemente
marcada por las
necesidades de su tiempo y
por el reto de interpretarlas
en función de los deseos del
cliente privado o
institucional.
