III. Non-print Materials Evaluation
(5) a. How adequate is the collection of non-print materials?
IMC provides a variety of non-print materials with different formats that may be used by students
and faculty in a variety of learning situations related to the curriculum and which are in need to supplement
classroom instruction.
(5) b. How adequate is the collection in the particular fields covered by the curriculum?
The IMC has a rich collection of non-print materials suited to the needs of both Grade School and
High School students as well as the teachers. It provides various materials in the different fields of study to
develop thorough knowledge on the subject area and promote competency in literacy across the curriculum.
(5) c. How well is the non-print collection kept up-to-date?
Yearly, IMC acquires non-print materials through recommendations from teachers and
administrators. In addition, IMC staff checks and evaluates the physical condition and the usefulness of the
materials. The obsolete, unused, and damaged material will be removed from the collection and should be
replaced with new materials.
(5) d. To what extent are faculty and administrators informed of the collection of non-print materials?
Newly acquired non-print materials are displayed for one month and the lists of the new materials
are posted in the bulletin board of IMC, Faculty, and Subject Coordinators Rooms. In additon, such lists are
presented to the administrators during Academic Council meetings.

D. Services
1. Services for Faculty and Admin
(5) a. How effective is the information service of the library and audio-visual center?
The Learning Resource Head is responsible for giving orientations on the Library and Multimedia
Center Services, programs, and policies to new and tenured faculty members and staff in coordination with the
HRDC and Basic Education Department. This is done during the in-service training or before the school year starts.
Faculty and administrators are informed of the newly-acquired materials and equipment during Academic
Council and Faculty meetings, library visits, and through the lists posted on the bulletin boards. Written rules and
regulations as well as guidelines and reminders are also displayed in a strategic area where all clientele could
easily be informed.

(5) b. To what extent do the library and AV center personnel meet the needs of the admin and faculty?
Open Shelf System is used in the library and Instructional Multimedia Center. All faculty and
administrators can borrow print and non-print materials for educational and recreational use. Library and IMC
staff guides and assists them through comprehensive reference service in identifying appropriate information
resources and in using new media and technologies. Furthermore, the LRC head gives referral letters to teachers
who would like to visit other libraries for research, study, and projects especially to those who are taking graduate
studies.
(5) c. How extensively do faculty members use the library and AV center for their professional growth?
The Grade School and High School Libraries have separate sections for professional books and
periodicals. Faculty members are free to select, browse and borrow the materials needed. These materials are
utilized by them as reference for their professional growth and graduate studies. In addition to this, audio-visual
materials and equipment are always available to support their classroom instruction.

(5) a. How well informed are the students about the services of the library and the AV center?
Students need to be acquainted with the library services and resources available to them. The
Library/IMC orientation takes place in their classroom during Library period wherein they are given necessary
knowledge/skills. Follow-up lectures are also provided as the need arises to help students with their research,
writing, and class preparation.
(5 ) b. How effectively do library and AV personnel work with students?
Library and IMC personnel are always available and very much willing to assist the pupils in their
research and selection process. They also analyze the users ever-changing needs and are urged to respond
proactively to the needs of students. Also, pupils are encouraged to carry out more independent work utilizing the
materials available and to make wider use of these resources.
(5) c. How adequate are the programs for students in encouraging reading, enhancing research and study skills?
The Learning Resource Staff (the Grade School Library, High School Library and Instructional
Multimedia Center) work collaboratively and individually to design, develop and implement programs that
encourage reading for enjoyment and for information. There is easy access of information through the open shelf
system, wherein students are free to browse directly. Using the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog), the newest
way of searching the collection through a computer, clients are able to know
the availability of the materials. To do their research and reading activities, Library Periods are schelduled
within the Reading/English Subject from Grades 1 to Fourth Year. The Library Orientation Program is also given
during this period. It is an ideal way for them to learn and understand the collections, policies and services.
Furthermore, pupils are allowed to borrow books during the library period, recess, lunch and dismissal time.
They are given recognition/incentives for having borrowed the highest number of books per month. The top
borrowers list is posted on bulletin boards. There are other programs/activities to encourage reading such as Get
Caught Reading Program, Readers of the Month/Year, Annual SJA Book Fair and Story Telling.
