Harris Becker
AMERICAN - CANADIAN

Harris Becker has had a rich and varied career as a guitarist and lutenist. He has performed
extensively both as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe,
South America, Mexico and Canada. His interest in contemporary music has offered him
the opportunity to premiere many new solo and ensemble pieces. Among the composers
who have dedicated works to him are Carlo Domeniconi, Hayley Savage, Raoul Pleskow,
Howard Rovics and the microtonal composer Johnny Reinhard. Most recently he
premiered new works by Michael Frassetti, Richard Iacona and the Harrisdale Concerto
by Alan Hirsh for violin/saw and guitar.

In 2012 Mr. Becker has given concerts and master classes in New York, Alabama, Canada,
Connecticut, Florida and at the Bermuda Guitar Festival. In addition to his career as a
performer he has been very involved as an educator giving master classes, workshops and
lectures. He recently gave two lecture/performances for Molloy College on Long Island
The Lute Music of John Dowland and the History of the Guitar. In Bermuda he gave
a lecture/demonstration on The Relationship Between Interpretation and Technique.

Harris Becker is director of guitar studies at LIU Post and he is on the music faculty at
Nassau Community College. Mr. Becker has been on the music faculties of the Aaron
Copland School of Music at Queens College and Director of Music for Mixed Ensembles
at the International Institute for Chamber Music at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in
Munich. The Florida State Division of Cultural Affairs selected Mr. Becker to be part of
Florida's Artist Residency Program, giving lecture/performances on the lute and baroque
guitar. In 2007 he received a faculty recognition award for outstanding service from the
School of Visual and Performing Arts at Long Island University.

Mr. Becker is Director of the Long Island Guitar Festival, which he founded in 1993. He
is also artistic director of a summer music festival in rural Quebec: Songe dt en
Musique. His recordings include Catgut Flambo with guitarist Pasquale Bianculli and
a solo CD Passing Through.
gmundur r Jhannesson
gmundur r Jhannesson was born in Reykjavk 1980. He began to study the classical guitar at the age of 10, and
finished his music studies in Iceland with honors in may 2000. He made private studies at the Escola Luthier d'arts
musical in Barcelona, Spain from 2000-2002 with Arnaldur Arnarsson, Ricardo Jess Galln, Alex Garrob and
Sadahiro Otani amongst others. He graduated in June 2008 from Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria. There,
under the guidance of Marco Diaz-Tamayo, he finished his Bachelors and Masters Degree with honors. He took
further lessons with Carlo Marchione in Maastricht Conservatory in Holland, and received a second Masters Degree.
He has received various awards and recognitions and become a prizewinner in Tokyo and Bangkok international
guitar competitions in November 2011. He received the sought-after Icelandic Artist Salary Grant for 9 months
from the Icelandic government for 2010, a grant from the Icelandic Rotary Movement in January 2009, Jean Pierre
Jaquillat Institution in 2005 and 2 other artistic awards that same year from Iceland. In 2003 he won the second
price at the II International guitar competition Agustin Barrios in Lambesc, France (first price was not awarded).
In 2001 he was a finalist at the VII International guitar competition Andres Segovia in Linares, Spain.

He has been invited to perform at various music festivals and concerts in Iceland (Tbr 2005 and 2008, TUF2012,
Nordic Music Days 2011, Dark Music Days 2010), Brazil (BRAVIO, WGC 2012), USA (Mostly Nordic Chamber
Music Series, Seattle, Scandinavian Foundation NYC), Israel (Guitar Gems Festival 2011 with Israel Kibbutz
Orchestra, Chile (Festival Entrecuerdas 2012 with TRM Orchestra), China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India (Blue Frog,
Mumbai), England, France (Islande-Provence 2006), Austria (Fratres and Trigonale festivals 2007), Spain, Germany
and Russia (St.Petersburg). In 2008 he made the premiere of the Sonata of Karlna Eirksdttir in Paris, France
which was dedicated to him. He has also taught masterclasses in Iceland Academy of Arts, Washington University,
and the Catholic University of Santiago de Chile. He received excellent critics for both of his solo recitals for the
Tbr Concert Series in Iceland in 2005 and 2008 from mbl.is : gmundur is an astonishing guitarist,
technical security emotional depth convincing with fire guitarist of great expectation He has taken
various master courses with Aniello Desiderio, Costas Cotsiolis, Joaqun Clerch, Thomas Mller Pering, Pavel Steidl,
Manuel Barrueco and David Russell, amongst others. gmundur is currently living in Bangalore in India, where
apart from international projects, he is working on promoting the classical guitar in India.



Paul Cesarczyk
AMERICAN POLISH

Described by Guitar Review Magazine as an artist of uncommon command and
maturity, with a broad and singing tone, Polish born American guitarist Paul Cesarczyk
is an active exponent of contemporary as well as traditional repertoire. He made his New
York City debut at the age of seventeen at Carnegie Halls Weill Recital Hall and has
concertized widely throughout Europe, the US and Asia.

He has appeared in concert with Speculum Musicae, The Claremont Ensemble, the New
York City Opera Orchestra, the Manhattan Virtuosi, Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra,
Cremona Festival Orchestra and as a founding member of the Manhattan Guitar Quartet.
Mr. Cesarczyk has performed on many festivals including the Long Island Guitar
Festival, where he performed Reichs minimalist masterpiece Electric Counterpoint and
the Danish GuitarWave festival playing the works of Per Norgard.

Mr. Cesarczyk is the recipient of several prestigious awards including the Andres
Segovia Award, the Aaron Copland prize from ASCAP (American Society of
Composers, Authors and Publishers), the Artists International Award, a Kosciuszko
Foundation Prize and an award for artistic excellence from the NY State Senate.

An active proponent of new music, Mr. Cesarczyk has worked with contemporary greats
such as George Crumb at the George Crumb Festival in New York as well as in
collaboration for his 70th Birthday Album released by Bridge Records. A composer in his
own right, Mr. Cesarczyks 2009 debut CD Polish Folk Melodies featured his
arrangements of Polish music. His arrangement of music by His Majesty Bhumibol
Adulyadej, the King of Thailand can be heard on Ekachai Jaerakuls recent guitar
recording.

Mr. Cesarczyk was educated in New York City public schools including the prestigious
La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts. He received his Bachelors and
Masters Degrees from Manhattan School of Music under David Starobin and completed
a Doctor of Musical Arts degree with Jerry Willard at the State University of New York
at Stony Brook. Since 2009, Mr. Cesarczyk serves as the department chair at Mahidol
University, College of Music in Thailand. A dedicated and active educator his students
have received prizes in many international competitions.


Simon Cheong was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and started learning the classical
guitar at 13 with his uncle Andrew Chye, a violinist. In 1983, with a British Council
Grant, he studied with John Duarte in London. He has given numerous performances
and has appeared on Malaysian Radio and TV as well as on ORTV, Turkey.

He founded the Classical Guitar Society (WP/Sel) Malaysia in 1993 and has been the
President ever since. He is the festival director of CGS Malaysia International Guitar
Festival & Camp. In 2004, with his students, he formed the Kuala Lumpur Guitar
Ensemble II (20042014). He has performed at guitar festivals in Turkey, Thailand and
Germany.

Simon has been teaching the classical guitar professionally for over 30 years and
taught degree and diploma programmes at University Technology MARA Malaysia.
He has also published his arrangements for the classical guitar Tanah Pusaka, Mak
Inang and Putra Putri (as quartets as well as solo arrangements).

His debut recording entitled Gubahanku is dedicated to his mother, Ursula Chye, on
the occasion of her 80th birthday celebration.

Filipino guitarist Gonzalo Noel Misa has given recitals in the USA, Singapore,
Malaysia, and around the Philippines. He has also recently won 2nd Prize at the
2013 Singapore International Guitar Competition.

His performances consist mostly of Western and Philippine solo guitar pieces but
he is slowly expanding his repertoire to include works from Southeast Asian
composers as well. He also often plays guitar-piano duets with his wife, which
include works from the Baroque period to the present.

He has also played in masterclasses of Pavel Steidl, Carlos Bonell, Johannes
Moller, and Gaelle Solal among others.

Gonzalo holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Guitar from the University of the
Philippines, and a Master of Music degree in Guitar from the Philippine Women's
University, where he is currently pursuing his Doctoral Studies in Guitar with a
scholarship under the Graduate Assistantship Program.
