Tourism is one of the main economic activities of the country, with a large number
of visitors and a generation of economical many millions of dollars in the year,
which makes it one of the most important source of foreign currency for the
country. Among the main tourist destinations highlights the bolivar department with
the city of Cartagena as the main attraction of the department. It is estimated that
more than two million d people arrive to Cartagena each year.
This influx of tourists has resulted in a significant development for tourist services
in the central area of the department, mainly in its capital from many years ago.
With the development of tourism, government and other institutions have invested
in integrating other products to the tourist offer of the department and thus promote
the increase of the average stay of the visitor.
Within these new products is the cultural route of the champeta music one of the
cultural representations of this city.
What is champeta music?
It is a contemporary rhythm that was born 26 years ago in the city of Cartagena de
Indias (Colombia) with a great influence of Palenque San Basilio and that through
their encounters with music of the Caribbean of the 80s which were carried out in
Cartagena was extended to the national level .Champeta was born as an
adaptation of African rhythms (soukous, highlife, bquanga, juju) with vibration west-
indian (rap, Haitian compas, zouk, calypso and soca) and influences of the music
descendant of indigenous and afro-colombian (bullarengue, mapale, zambapalo
and chalupa). This fusion of rhythms you configured a new urban music culture in
the Caribbean context, which is consolidated in the popular neighborhoods of
Cartagena in the mid-eighties.
Then in the years 90 suffered a series of changes both in its contents, as in its
music, accompanied by digital phenomena, plates (interventions arrhythmic) and
being both beloved as rejected by the elite sectors of the country. Champeta is
disseminated through the powerful sound equipment called peaks (pick-up) that
can be heard in the stalls or even though by now be have more welcomed in
Colombia is listening for radio stations.
It is characterized by the rhythmic base takes precedence over the melodic and
harmonic lines, making it a musical expression in dance that is dominated by a
force and a plasticity overflowing.
Objectives and components of the project
The end of the project is to contribute to the sustainability of the tourism
development of Cartagena as the tourist city of Colombia by excellence. Its
purpose is to support the definition and management of a tourist destination in
which the community cartagenera have greater participation, and so they can feel
part of this great industry as is the tourism, also extend the offer that today the city
has to offer.
To achieve these objectives, the project includes the following components:
Component 1. Definition of the target market and planning of the tourist
destination. Develop planning from the point of view of tourism, with emphasis on
the demand for community services
Component 2. Development and implementation of a model of associativity tourist
community. Having a model of associativity, which would allow communities and
manage activities of tour operation?
Component 3. Product Development. Develop the capacity of the tourism product
that may be permissible to market through tour operators
component 4. Strengthening community focused on the tourism demand through
training and technical assistance. Increase the quality and quantity of tourist
services in a joint pilot initiatives component 5. Market and Promotion The aim is to
help position Cartagena as a city of endless products and sustainability through the
promotion of this cultural route of champeta music in all of our Colombian territory.
Overall objective of the document
interpretative perform a dash to show the other face of Cartagena through the
cultural route of champeta, in order to expand, improve the quality and quantity of
products that provides the city and the experience of the tourist who visit us. To
carry out this script have been selected the activities that most can integrate the
tourist with the community at the same time to enjoy this wonderful world
champetudo.
Activities to carry out the purpose of this table is to identify each space and
interpretative site or stop by where the activities will be developed, the tour has a
duration of two hours and take into account that can only be carried out on Fridays,
Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays in the hours of the night.

The duration is two hours with 35 minutes, and is divided of the follows -10 minutes welcome- 20 minutes
conference-snack 10 minutes-dance classes 30 minutes-snack and rest 20 minutes-transfer 15 minutes-time
in the dance of pick-up 35 minutes-back to meeting place15 minutes and keep in mind that this product can
only be offered during nighttime hours ranging from 8pm until 1am on weekends including Monday.
