2009 Tax Information

To ensure your contributions qualify for 2009, checks must

be delivered or mailed (post-marked) on or before December
31, 2009. Checks placed in the church offering in 2010 will
not qualify for 2009, even if the check is pre-dated to 2009.
For you convenience, the church finance office will be open
Thursday, December 31, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00
p.m. Please do not file your 2009 tax return until you have
received your 2009 contribution statement from the church.

2009 Stock Contributions

Stock contributions in certificate form must be recieved in
the finance office no later than noon on December 30, 2009.
Stock contributions in transfer form must be received into the
church’s account no later than December 30, 2009. Please

 Signing the Manhattan Declaration
I was one of the original
signatories of the
historic Manhattan
Declaration, an
interdenominational
and historical
statement which
expresses our
profound beliefs in
moral and ethical convictions. It is not
a doctrinal statement and so includes
evangelical leaders as well as those in the
Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches.
I hope that you will go online to read the
document and sign it as have thousands
of other concerned Americans. Look for
www.manhattandeclaration.org and
join Chuck Colson and many other key
American leaders in sending a message.
I cannot share in this article the contents
except to say that it is an incredibly
worded statement affirming the sanctity
of all human life, including the unborn,
the disabled, and the elderly. It is a strong
stand for the biblical, traditional institution
of marriage between a man and a woman,
as well as an affirmation of our freedom
of religion and the rights of conscience.
As Martin Luther said so many years ago,
“Here I stand; I can do no other.” We must
not allow the government to jeopardize
our most precious liberties. We stand
for the foundational principles of justice
and the common good and go against

Sermon Notes
the culture of death which threatens our
civilization. We must refuse to redefine
marriage in terms of same-sex and multiple
partner relationships and do all that we
can to strengthen existing marriages and
families. We must resist all efforts from
the government to weaken or eliminate
conscience clauses and compel pro-life
institutions to perform abortions, promote
cloning, or any other practices such as
embryo-destructive research, assisted
suicide, and euthanasia. Recent hate crimes
legislation and redefinition of “hate speech”
can be a tool of the left to muzzle the voices
of ministers and control hiring and firing
practices in businesses and ministries.
I believe that we must stand with those
saints of the ages who refused to say,
“Caesar is Lord.” We will “Render unto
Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and
to God the things that are God’s” (Mark
12:17). We want to be law-abiding citizens
but may at some point be forced into civil
disobedience because we follow a higher
and greater King. We must say with Peter
and John, “Whether it is right in the sight
of God to give heed to you rather than to
God, you be the judge; for we cannot stop
speaking about what we have seen and
heard” (Acts 4:19-20). Please join me and
encourage your friends and family to be a
part of this battle and pray for our nation.

Christmas Child
Thank you to everyone who participated this year in Operation Christmas
Child. We had our best year ever. The total number of boxes this year from
our church was 1,749! We didn’t reach our goal of 2,000, but it was our
biggest year ever. We did over 300 more boxes than last year! Praise the
Lord! Plan now to get involved next year and do a shoe box or two or three!
Thank you to all who prepared a box and all who participated in helping. You
have helped send Christ’s love from First Baptist Church Naples to hurting
children. Our boxes this year are being shipped to India, Ukraine, and an
undisclosed Muslim country. God bless you all. And, Merry Christmas!
