Unistrut

Section 10
UNISTRUT
Page 151
Material
All single unistrut members are accurately and carefully rolled from mild steel.
All multiple members are two or more single unistrut members spot welded on
50mm to 75mm centres or tack welded.
Standard Lengths
Standard lengths of the above channels are 6m. Facilities are available to cut to
any special lengths for a small cutting charge.
Finishes
Standard finish pre-galvanised, other finishes can be supplied, details on request.
Nuts
The unistrut nuts are made from steel bar hardened after manufacture. The
ends of the nuts are shaped so as to permit a quarter turn crosswise in the
framing member after inserting through the slotted opening in the channel and
prevents any futher turning of the nut.Two separate grooves in the top of the nut
engage the inturned edges of the channel and after fixing operations are
completed, will prevent any longitudinal movement of the screw and nut within
the framing member. All screws and nuts have metric coarse screw threads.
Weights and Dimensions
Weights given for all materials are approximate shipping weights. All dimensions
are subject to commercial tolerance variations.
Fittings
The unistrut fittings, unless noted
otherwise, are punched press made
from hot rolled, pickled and oiled steel
plates or strip. The pickling of the steel
produces a smooth surface free from
scale.
P1000 channels and combinations are
cold rolled from 2.5mm strip steel.
Standard length 6m.
P1000V channels and combinations are
cold rolled from 2.5mm strip steel.
Standard length 6m.
P2000 channels and combinations are
cold rolled from 1.5mm strip steel.
Standard length 6m.
P4000 channels and combinations are
cold rolled from 1.5mm strip steel.
Standard length 6m.
P5000 channels and combinations are
cold rolled from 2.5mm strip steel.
Standard length 6m.
P3300 channels and combinations are
cold rolled from 2.5mm strip steel.
Standard length 6m.

Beam Loads
Allowable uniformally distributed loads are listed for various
simple spans, that is, beam on two supports. If the load is
concentrated at centre of the span, mulitiply the load from the
table by 0.5 and corresponding deflection by 0.8.
Stress 175 N/mm - Recommended for use where deflection is
not a factor on long spans, guaranteed yield 280 N/mm.
Column Loads
Column loadings are for allowable axial loads for the unsupported
heights listed. If loads are eccentric, they should be reduced
according to the standard practice.
Material
All loading given are based on mild steel channels. P1000 and
P3300 can also be supplied in 316 grade stainless steel.
