An important part of the concept of the 4x4 House, is not only the light and the water but also the sound of the wind.
The house combines a rigorous use of geometry with the interest of creating an architecture that in this case becomes
part of the sea.

Tadao Ando
Japanese architect Tadao Ando spent his early years as a professional boxer and truck driver, until he changed course,
taught himself architecture and eventually became one of the Great Fathers of contemporary. Ando has completed an
almost endless list of buildings both in Japan and other countries, and his buildings all demonstrate the celebration of
classical beauty: austere, yet complex compositions of geometric shapes, impressive in situ concrete elements and
striking daylight effects are among Ando's trademarks became one of the Great Fathers of contemporary architecture.

THE BUILDING WAS DESIGNED TO CAPTURE THE GREAT
VIEW OF ITS LOCATION.




THE METAL BRIDGE CONNECTS AND MAKES THE PHYSICAL RELATIONSHIP OF THE BUILDING AND THE MOUNTAIN.

THE RESIDENCE OF THE BIANCHIS ARE MOSTLY COMPOSED OF VERTICAL GEOMETRIC SLABS OF MASS, THEREFORE
REGAINING ITS IMPORTANCE WHEN COMPARED TO THE VERTICALITY OF THE MOUNTAINS

THE DESIGN OF THE BIANCHI RESIDENCE IS STILL CURRENT FOR ITS AGE.

Falling Water by Frank Lloyd Wright

Project description:
It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufmann family.
Fallingwater was built between 1936and 1939.
The Fallingwater is a house that stretches over a 30 waterfall.
There were four materials used to build the Fallingwater - sandstone, reinforced concrete, steel and glass.

Location:
Fallingwater is located in southwest Pennsylvanias Laurel Highlands.
The house is located along PA Route 381 between the villages of Mill Run and Ohiopyle. Connellsville,

Frank Lloyd Wright
June 8, 1867 - April 9, 1959
Frank designed structures that were in harmony with humanity and the environment. One of them being the
Fallingwater. He called this philosophy Organic Architecture.
Wright was recognized in 1991 by the American Institute of Architects as "the greatest American architect of all
time"


Farnsworth House by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
The Farnsworth House was designed and constructed by
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe between 1945-51. It is a one-
room weekend retreat in a once-rural setting, located 55
miles (89 km) southwest of Chicago's downtown on a 60-
acre (24 ha) estate site, adjoining the Fox River, south of
the city of Plano, Illinois. The steel and glass house was
commissioned by Dr. Edith Farnsworth, a prominent
Chicago nephrologist, as a place where she could engage in
her hobbies: playing the violin, translating poetry, and
enjoying nature. Mies created a 1,500-square-foot (140 m2)
house that is widely recognized as an iconic masterpiece of
International Style of architecture. The home was
designated a National Historic Landmark in 2006, after
joining the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. The
house is currently owned and operated as a house museum by the historic preservation group, National Trust for
Historic Preservation.


In September 2008, the house was flooded by rains from the remnants of Hurricane Ike. Water levels reached about 18
inches (46 cm) above the floor and the 5 foot (1.5 m) stilts upon which the house rests. Much of the furniture was saved
by elevating it above the flood waters. The house was closed to the public for the remainder of 2008 for repairs and
reopened for public visitation in spring 2009.

Villa Capra La Rotunda by Andrea Palladio

Project description:

Background: The Villa Capra La Rotunda was built during the Renaissance. A priest, Paolo Almerico commissioned
Palladio to make him a house for his retirement but both Almerico and Palladio never got the chance to see the house
completed before they died. Located just outside Vicenza, the Villa Capra is situated on top of a hill surrounded by green
meadows which connotes a more peaceful place, perhaps a place closer to God, where God is the center of everything.

Importance: Its unique design, a faade is almost always visible regardless of which side you are: the viewer who walks
around the villa never encounters a non-favorable angle. The Villa La Rotonda, would become one of the most
recognizable buildings of the Renaissance. It is a building that incorporates ancient Roman classical models with a touch
of innovative design and considered to be a paradigm of architectural excellence for future generations of architects
across the world.

Gehrys California House by Frank O. Gehry
Project description:
The house is wrapped around three sides of the old house on the ground floor, extending the house towards the street
and leaving the exterior of the existing home almost untouched. The interior went through a considerable amount of
changes on both if its two levels.
It makes use of unconventional materials such as chain link fences and corrugated steel. It is sometimes considered one
of the earliest deconstructivist buildings, although Gehry himself denies that it was deconstructivism.
