Alkali-resistant (A.R.

),
primed fibreglass mesh
for localised reinforced
strengthening of
masonry substrates
WHERE TO USE
Glass fibre reinforcement used in conjunction with
Planitop HDM (two-component, high-ductility
cementitious smoothing and levelling compound) or
Planitop HDM Maxi (two-component, high-ductility
cemetitious mortar) for structural strengthening masonry
work, to improve the distribution of stresses induced by
mechanical loads.
Some typical application examples
Structural strengthening of masonry facing walls,
applied either externally or internally.
Strengthening and support reinforcement to achieve
the correct grip of load-bearing walls to reinforced
concrete frame structures.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Mapegrid G 120 is a special mesh made up of primed,
alkali-resistant glass fibres which, thanks to its special
woven pattern, increases ductility in strengthened walls
by distributing stresses more evenly. The system
adheres perfectly to the support so strongly that
localised stresses provoke failure of the support itself,
rather than of the support-strengthening system
interface.
With interventions on reinforced concrete structures
(e.g. framed structures), which require a perfect support
for the secondary elements (buffer walls, tiled elements,
etc.) with the load-bearing structural elements (beams
and pillars), Mapegrid G 120 ensures excellent grip,
as indicated in the most recent reference standards
regarding the field of seismic applications.
ADVANTAGES
Excellent tensile strength.
Stable and resistant to chemical attack by cement.
Resistant to atmospheric agents.
High dimensional stability.
Does not rust.
Light and easy to handle.
Easy to cut and adapt to the shape of the substrate.
Quick to apply and put in service.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Preparation of the substrate
The surface on which Mapegrid G 120 is to be applied
must be prepared correctly. Render must be completely
removed using either mechanical or manual means.
This operation must be carried out right down to the
underlying masonry work. Where necessary, when
removing the render, large gaps must be filled with
new stone, bricks and/or tuff which has physical
characteristics as similar as possible to the original
materials. The surface of fractures must be sealed using
Planitop HDM Maxi.
Remove loose material and dust and wash the structure
down with water.
Wet the structure to be strengthened. Excess water
must be left to evaporate off so that the masonry to be
repaired is saturated with water, but is left with a dry

surface (s.d.s.). This operation may be

How to apply Mapegrid G 120
1. Preparation of Planitop HDM or Planitop
HDM Maxi (please refer to the technical
data sheet).
2. Application of a uniform, 3-4 mm thick
layer of Planitop HDM using a flat, metal
trowel. If the substrate is particularly
uneven, it must be smoothed beforehand
with Planitop HDM Maxi.
3. While the product is still fresh, insert the
Mapegrid G 120 by pressing it lightly with
a flat trowel so that it adheres perfectly to
the mortar.
4. Apply a second uniform layer of
Planitop HDM approximately 2-3 mm
thick in order to completely cover the
mesh.
Adjacent sheets of Mapegrid G 120 must
overlap by at least 25 cm at their longitudinal
junction points. Transverse junction points
must overlap by at least 10 cm.
