DESCRIPTION OF INTERVENTION/ASSISTANCE
Safety and potability of water supply is the Districts utmost
concern hence, treatment procedures are undertaken to ensure the
same and likewise, maintain quality in accordance with the prescribed
standards. Since the District had started its operation in the early of
1960s, it has been using two water purifying procedures, namely, the
Sedimentation and Chlorination Process. Although, these procedures
have satisfied water quality requirements in the past up to the present,
these may not uphold the future. The present state of the watershed
area after the happening of the super typhoon may not guarantee
stability of raw water supply and further prevent flooding in the Dam and
up streams and cause water turbidity as flood water or turbid water will
blend with the influx of water from the Dam to the Settling Basin. This
occurrence leaves the district with no other recourse but to regulate
inflow of water from the Dam to the Basin and therefore adjust outflow
of water from the latter for distribution.
The proposed construction of Filtration Plant will address the
water turbidity problem and further ensure safety of water for public
consumption.

Construction/Improvement of Laboratory House

DESCRIPTION OF INTERVENTION/ASSISTANCE
The Metro Carigara Water District safeguards the interests of its
stakeholders by closely monitoring water quality thru regular water
testing for Chlorine Residue, Bacteriological Test for Water, Physical and
Chemical Tests, Microbiological Test and related analyses. Unfortunately,
there are only two accredited laboratories and testing centers in
Tacloban City. So as not to jeopardize water quality in cases of
unavailability or operational paralysis of these testing centers
particularly during adverse circumstances, the District believed it
prudent to construct its own laboratory house and improve/upgrade its
testing facilities.

Construction of an Open-Drainage System

DESCRIPTION OF INTERVENTION/ASSISTANCE
The construction of an Open-Drainage System at the Settling Basin
will act as conduit of the storm run-offs from elevated ground back
towards the creek as its natural outlet hence, preventing contamination
to the water at the Basin. Moreover, in case the Basin water will
overflow due to the combined volume coming from the Dam and heavy
rainfall, the drainage system will hold such and circumvent runoff to the
surrounding community.

Construction of Pipeline Bridge

DESCRIPTION OF INTERVENTION/ASSISTANCE
Pipelines located along trenches and water channels are
vulnerable to damages especially during adverse weather conditions. In
order to prevent such pipelines from being washed-out or deeply buried,
the District deemed it necessary to relocate and/or construct Pipeline
Bridges as the same shall likewise minimize head loss due to sudden
change in the elevation.

Construction of Retaining Wall of Pipelines

DESCRIPTION OF INTERVENTION/ASSISTANCE
A total length of Transmission Pipelines from the Dam to the Basin
area are located along steep mountain slopes and as such are exposed to
damages as may be resulted from landslide due to heavy rains and/or
earthquake. Construction of Retaining Wall along these pipelines will
protect said pipelines from further damages or from being totally blown
away.

The proposed Warehouse/Storage Building will serve as a
replacement for the records/storage house which had totally collapsed
during the Super Typhoon Yolanda. The new warehouse will provide a
proper environment for the purpose of storing significant MCWD records,
plumbing materials and other unused equipment that require protection
from the elements.

Reforestation Project

Over hundreds of trees had fallen or uprooted within the
watershed area of MCWD water source during the storm. Reforestation
activities can bring back life to degraded or clear-cut areas and restore
the watershed maintaining the class A source of water. This project
may also mean to provide an excellent way to involve local stakeholders
and allow communities to connect with nature and become a vested part
of a larger conservation program.
