BULLETIN DESCRIPTION
This is an introduction to fundamental concepts for the design and analysis of
broadband networks. Topics include resource allocation, routing, congestion control,
medium access, scheduling, and multicast. Concepts are applied to state-of-the-art
systems and protocols such as current and future Internet protocols.
PREREQUISITES
CSCI 366 Files/Database Systems.
EVALUATION PROCEDURES AND CRITERIA
There will be seven assignments. Three of them are programming. Students
registered for CSCI 659 will be asked to write a paper report at the end of the
semester. Quizzes might be given in classes without notification in advance. The
final score will be the sum of assignments, quizzes and report (for CSCI 659
students only) normalized to the range of [0, 100] by the total score. Letter grades
will be determined as follows

ATTENDANCE
According to NDSU Policy 333, attendance in classes is expected. When quizzes
are given in the classes, make-up quizzes will not be allowed.

Students in this course must do assignments, report, and quizzes INDIVIDUALLY!
Students are required to protect their work and not allow other students access to
that work whether it be allowing it to be copied, or treating its security in such a way
as to give unintentional access, such as "accidental" loss. When duplicate
(essentially the same) work is turned in by two or more students, each student will
receive minus the points possible for the work. Thus, for a 100-point assignment, all
involved would receive -100 points. If the infraction is deemed more egregious, then
further action may be taken.
LATE WORK POLICY
Assignments are due at midnight on the given due dates. Assignments turned in
within one day after the due time will be subjected to a 25% penalty in score. For
example, if the total score of the assignment is 100 points, then 25 points will be
deducted from whatever score the student has. Assignments overdue by more than
one day will get 0 point.
