2.0 Comparison and Contrast Essay about Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab
A tablet is a wireless, portable personal computer with a touch screen interface. Tablet
tend to be larger and benefit from much longer battery life than mobile phones but smaller
than notebook (Muir, 2012). As technology advances, tablets are being booted from the
market within years. Considering laptops replaced desktops, but could tablets replace laptops?
The possibilities are already coming to life through the efficiency of tablets in businesses
aspect.
According to the prove of Beavertonpost (2014), An incredible 217.1 million tablets shipped
globally over the course of 2013 and while consumer demand is expected to remain strong in
2014, there are signs that the device, which has only been in existence for 4 years, is already
starting to reach saturation point in the US and Europe (para. 1).
The similarities of Apple iPad Air and Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 are both have touch
screen features, connectivity and ports, the portability and contain of data storage whereas,
the differences among these two branded tablets are the operating system, data storage and
applications. Each of the tablets have its own competitive advantage. The question which is
perplexing and keep haunting us is which tablet (Apple iPad Air or Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro
10.1) could really enhance workers performance?
First and foremost, Apple iPad Air and Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 have touch
screen features. Junja (2008) informed that a touch screen is a technological display screen
which is also an input device. The screens are sensitive to pressure; a user interacts with the
device by touching pictures or words on the screen. The touch screen is the common features
that both of the tablets have it, this feature is very useful because most of the by accessing the
tablet you have to touch or swipe the screen. With the touchscreen feature, the both of the
tablets appear one of the most notable features which doesnt have physical keyboard.

Meaning to say that the typing will be done by the onscreen keyboard. According to PCmag
(n.d.), an onscreen keyboard displayed on a touch screen. It is also known as a "soft
keyboard," tapping the "virtual keys" with a stylus or finger is the same as pressing a real key
on a keyboard.
Data storage has become dramatically imperative within the last 30 years (Tech &
Science, 2013). Apple iPad Air and Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 both also contain data
storage. It may be said without fear of contradiction that both of the tablets have connectivity
and ports. Connectivity and ports included Wi-Fi, broadband, Bluetooth, HDMI, camera as
well. In this era of globalization, wireless networking (Wi-Fi) has become so widespread that
everyone can access the Internet anywhere at any time, without using wires (Brain, n.d.). It
may be added that, Apple iPad Air and Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 have the internet
connection which included Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G. Tablets also allow for wireless connectivity
to the internet and to other computers. Jacobi, Perenson and Mastin (2013) stated that both
of them are great for browsing the web, with the 802.11a so that some businessman might
need to use to connect in their offices. An increasing number of tablets have mobile
broadband connection, which iPad Air and Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 have the feature.
uSwitch (n.d.) indicated that mobile broadband can be accesses by mobiles phones, mobile
dongles, data cards and MiFi units. Dongles are USB-compatible and plug into the laptop, PC
or device. The main difference between older 3G mobile broadband and 4G mobile
broadband is speed. Moreover, they both have Bluetooth 4.0 technology for connection
which might use for headset or a car kit (Bluetooth, n.d.). HDMI is much important for the
businessmen to present something from their tablets. Camera is a must for tablets, so that the
tablets can make video calls or videoconferencing, and both of them provide the camera
feature.

Last but not least, the similarity among both tablets are the portability. Tablets
including Apple iPad Air and Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 are more portable than any
computer. They are very lightweight and can fit in a purse or small bag easily. They are
designed to be taken everywhere unlike the computers have to be plugged in to the plug point
and connected with the electricity. According to Packer (n.d.), compared to laptop computers,
tablets are much smaller, which most tablets offer anywhere from 7 to 10-inches display
screen and weighted lesser than 1 pound.
The difference of iPad Air and Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 would be said without fear of
contradiction that operating system (OS) is completely different. The operating system of
iPad Air is iOS 8 whereas the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 is Android 4.4. iOS has its own operating
system which designed precisely for tablets while the Android system are able to tweak and
twist so that it could suits our needs. According to Bray (2014) iOS is the simplest and easiest
mobile operating system to get grips with and to understand among iOS, Android and
Windows. The battery life is also a part of an operating system, Tucker (2014) commented
that Android OS have a better battery life compared to iOS because the size of Apples
batteries plays a huge role on it. The next part of operating system will be the customization
and the choice, as Tucker (2014) said Android is the king of customization by changing every
part about the device to make it exactly what you expect. As we mentioned on the top about
the data storage is one of the similarities, it might be the difference as well. The data storage
of both are completely different which available in the market. According to the official
website of Samsung (n.d.), the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 have 16GB and 32GB which
are available in the market and Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 have external source of memory with
MicroSD which can up to 64GB. Apple (n.d.) said that iPad Air have 16GB, 32GB, 64GB
and 128GB but it doesnt have any external source of memory.

The huge different of these two tablets are the applications. Apps is a short form of
applications, which designed for and run on a smartphones and tablets (McFedries, 2013). An
app is a software program that can do specific task. Galaxy Tab 10.1 Pro get apps from
Google Play whereas iPad Air get apps from the Apple app store. Diffen (n.d.) believes that
Google Play has 600,000 apps and most of them are suitable for tablet, App store offers
700,000 apps and 250,000 of them are available for the iPad. The apps which available in
Google Play puts a lesser filter and ease towards the store, meaning to say that users can
upload their app into Google Play easily for other users download purposes unlike the Apple
app store has being checked out before they are approved the apps, limiting the amount of
garbage apps. iOS is the leader when it comes to mobile entertainment and applications, with
iTunes store have a much bigger library of music and video.
In a nutshell, Apple iPad Air and Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 have the same features which
are the touch screen, connectivity and ports, the portability and contain of data storage and
the differences of them are operating system, data storage and applications. Everything has its
own advantage and disadvantage, it goes the same with these two tablets.
3.0 Ways of Tablets Run Effectively in A Working Environment
Nowadays, owning a tablet is an indispensable necessity among people from all walks of life.
Gone were the days when tablets were not used by people compared to the usage amount of
tablets by people in this day age.
Vsdaily (2013) proved that Malaysian using tablet is an essential ingredient by stating that:
According to an official press release by the research company GFK, 450,000 tablets flew
off the shelves in Malaysia between January and May this year and it has made the local
tablet market increased 20 per cent to reach US$182 million (RM579.9 million) for the first
five months of 2013, the Jakarta Post reported (para. 1).

In this era of globalization, tablets are superbly powerful business tools, which is why more
and more businesses are turning to tablets for their everyday IT needs (Marshall, 2013). In
my personal and humble opinion, employees who involve in a business can boost up their
productivity performances by using tablet, however laptop and desktop computer will be
replaced by tablet soon. 64% of the firms in North America and Europe countries identify
providing more mobility support for employees as a top priority (Cisco, 2012). Tablets can
keep workers in contact all the time, save time and money, have securities system and
business apps are available in the store.
First of all, it may be added that tablets can ensure employees can brings to
everywhere which portability makes tablets attractive. The expectation of doing a business is
to make sure that all the businesses can occur from a mobile device instead of using
cumbersome desktop computers which can only work well in a fixed position and tablet has
the ability to last for hours without charging is one of the strong advantage in business
(Crooks, 2003). As a consequence, employees can keep in contact by others with tablet
anytime rather than staying at a constant position to keep contact at certain time. Laptop is
also portable which can bring to everywhere, but rather than walking into a meeting with a
super-heavy laptop, a tablet can be utilized to display a slideshow or a video presentation, it is
much easier in the terms of setup and conduct the whole process much less burdensome
especially employees which have to travel to another location to join in the meeting. By
integrating the latest technology into the presentation can demonstrate the professionally as
well as innovative spirit of an employee to potential clients or business partners (Bosari,
2012). Tablet will become imperative companion pieces for business purposes more willingly
than laptop.
On top of that, tablets can also save the cost and time of the company. A tablet will
save hard costs that currently eat into the bottom line of a company. The amount of money

that a business spend on petrol fee to meet clients, papers that printed and spending on Pos
Laju every month by running paperwork from place to place is supremely costly. The time
that a business spending on faxing, copying, PosLaju-ing or driving documents between
clients. As a sequence, tablets are the ultimate low overhead and time saver for a
company to run a business by stay connected to colleagues and clients with easy e-mail, pre-
installed social networking applications; a front-facing camera for video calls (Lenovo, 2011).
Moreover, the increased productivity of tablets came by software providers which respond by
letting users download programs and software without paying which can also save the cost of
a company. Besides of saving cost and time, having a tablets can also save the environment.
Theres no reason to stop at one tree. However, several huge overseas organizations such as
American Airlines, NFL teams, town governments have all taken the plunge to going
paperless (Chacos, 2012).
Paper documents can be touched by any number of people, who may make copies for
themselves or others. The securities system of tablets is also one of the factors which can
affect the working environment. According to Adams (2013), the permissions from the
tablets is also a part of security system, before downloading an app, a list of permissions that
app requests of tablets. Once the permission is given, it cannot be revoked unless the app is
being uninstall. Therefore, users have to very carefully about the download content of each
app. Another security which apply to every tablets is the lock screen security. If employees
tablets gets stolen, the lock screen security will protect the companys information from being
leaked. The examples of lock screen security are picture password lock screen, passcode and
password. As an outcome, tablets cannot works effectively in a working environment when
tablets does not have any security system.
Last but not least, productivity applications which can download from the store is also
an integral ingredient in a working environment. Kelly (2012) stated that a survey done by

Symantec has proved 71% of enterprises are either looking to apps from the store, or
developing their own mobile app. There are several applications which can cause tablet
works effectively in a working environment. Dropbox is a cloud data storage which can store
information on Dropbox as opposed to their hard drives. It offer many advantages to business
that work in global marketplace by creating for employees to access information from all
over the world. It makes data access safe which protect information both aside and outside of
company (Dropbox, n.d.). Audio Memos which let employees can take recordings ans save
them in Dropbox. This app switch the tablets into a high-end audio recorder which can record
meetings, interviews, notes, voice and more (Bort and Russell, 2013). 1Password is a digital
wallet without paper required. It makes employee more productive while simultaneously
increasing the security with firm and unique passwords for all accounts and keep all the
important information encrypted and secure. 1Password can store website logins, credit cards,
identity card and more. CloudOn can run Microsoft Office on tablets. It create documents on
tablets and always compatible. CloudOn supports many of Microsoft Offices advanced
features. Evernote is a note-taking app that can take notes, clip web pages, store images, take
audio notes, and then share them across devices and among co-workers.
All in all, tablets is portable can affect in a working environment effectively by the
feature of portability of tablets, tablets can save time and money, tablets have securities
system and tablets contain of business apps are available in the store. As a responsibility and
concerned analyser which analyse the two electronic devices, the information has been
provided crystal clear so that companys management can make an optimal decision on
which tablets to choose based on the provided information.

4.0 Conclusion & Recommendation
As a conclusion, I have learned the elements of classification between Samsung
Galaxy Tab and Apple iPad by enabling to apply the concept, using the appropriate terms
when classifying these two tablets. The importance and way of comparing and contrasting the
both tablets that express equivalence, non-equivalence, highest degree and parallel increase. I
am being able to determine parts-whole relationship, apply concepts which involved reasons
and drawing conclusions of Samsung Galaxy Tab and Apple iPad, relate the tools for finding
the best solution as well as knowing the reason and processes for decision making. Every
Tom, Dick and Harry should play an active role to maintain English language as our second
language in Malaysia. Government agencies ought to work hand in hand with education
establishments to surge the importance of English in Malaysia. Merely understanding the
significance of English is insufficient, we must act fast for the sake of our young generation
Vision 2020 of our nation that is to groom prospective leaders should be taken seriously, thus
the English language must be remain and maintain in Malaysia.
