➢ Introduction:
Word processing is a term, which describes the use of hardware and
software to create, edit, view, format, store, retrieve and print documents
(written material such as letters, reports, books, etc.). A word processing
package enables us to do all these on a computer system.
➢ Title bar
• indicate title of the application and the current document.
• Cut the selected text, picture or any other clipart and place it on the
office clip board.
• Copy the selected text, picture or any other clipart to the office
clipboard.
• Paste the text, picture or any other clipart already extracted or copied
• Insert Hyperlink. Hyperlink means a text having a link with some other
page and after clicking it we jump to the other page.
• Assign border to page, paragraph or selected text .
• Insert Table.
• Insert MS’s Excel Spread Sheet.
• Create columns on a page as directed (currently 2; maximum 4).
• Show/hide drawing bar on the bottom.
➢ Formatting bar
• contains buttons related to operations on font, alignment and layout of
page.
➢ Drawing bar
• is used to create, edit, or format the pictures, or auto shapes.
• Shortcut to draw a
• Line.
• Ray.
• Square or rectangle.
• Parabola or circle.
• Insert a picture.
➢ Status bar
• shows the current status of document i.e.
• No. of current page. That page where the cursor exits currently.
• Section of current page.
• Page where the cursor exits currently, out of total pages in the
document.
• Location of cursor in inches.
• The line where cursor exists currently.
• The column where cursor exists currently.
➢ Menu bar contains menu of Word 2003 i.e. File, Edit, View, Insert,
etc.

• Cancel the last operation performed i.e. typing.
• Repeat the last operation performed i.e. typing
• Cut the selected text, picture or any other clipart and
place it on the office clip board.
• Copy the selected text, picture or any other clipart to
the office clipboard.
Shows the office clipboard. Office clipboard has text, or
graphics recently extracted or copied.

➢ Task Pane
• is sub window of MS Word user interface, provides options such as
• Online help about Office from Microsoft’s homepage.
• Provide online update to latest version.
• Open recent document
• Create a new document using pre defined templates
• It also provides option to download templates from Microsoft’s
Homepage and we can create our required template manually.
• Add/remove required toolbars to the Microsoft Word user interface.
We can also create our required toolbar manually using customize
option.
• Show/Hide horizontal and vertical ruler bars.
• Summarize whole document.
• Provide preview of each page in the form of thumb-nailed picture at
left hand side of Ms Word user interface.
• Show/Hide header of page and options related to them.
• Add foot notes to documents.
➢ Footnotes
• are used in printed documents to explain, comment
on, or provide references for text in a document. A
footnote consists of two linked parts — the note
reference mark and the corresponding note text.
• Show comments (if any) in the document.
• Enable/Disable full screen mode.
• Show the size of display (Zoom).

• Sentence case, Title case, tOGGLE cASE, lower case, UPPER CASE.
• Gives background color to the document
• Provide different predefined looks (themes) to document.
• This option closes current document and show outline/summary of
document in a new document. We can save this (new) document as
summary of that document. In other words we can cut frames of
document.
• Option to format our document automatically.
• Provides different styles and formats of lists and headings.
• Provides current formatting of whole
document.

• Open a new window containing same
document.
• Arrange new window with recent one by
splitting screen vertically.
• Arrange new window with recent one by
splitting

• Split screen as required.
• Show currently opened document’s title.
Help menu:
• Show help related to MS Word.
• The Office Assistant can answer our
questions, offer tips, and provide help for a
variety of features specific to the program
we are using. The Assistant is shared by
all Microsoft Office programs.
• Online help facility about MS Word.
• Contact information about Microsoft.
• Check for the updates online.
• Repair the corrupt MS Word’s document.
• Register your copy to Microsoft
