B. Below is a PECs Profile Sheet, Copy this on your
notebook. On a scale of 0 to 25 (with 0 to mean absent and 25
to signify very strongly present), put an X over the point
that approximates the presence or absence of the PECs
listed on the left side of the profile sheet.
Example: If you feel that on a scale of 0 to 25 you rate 20 as
far as opportunity-seeking is concerned, it will
appear as follows:
Opportunity-Seeking

0 5 10 15 20 25
If you find it difficult to provide an estimate rating for
your PECs, read the behavior indicators again and reflect on
how you have or you would have exhibited them under
various circumstances.
As soon as you have finished plotting, connect all Xs to
complete the graphing.

PECs Scores
1.) Refer to your answer in the Self-Rating Questionnaire in Part A. Copy the table
below in your notebook and enter your ratings on the lines above the item
numbers in parenthesis. Notice that the item numbers in each column are
consecutive. It will be much easier for you to transfer your ratings vertically than
horizontally.

(10) (21) (32) (43) (54)
__ - __ - __ - __ + __ + 18 = _____ Correction Factor

2.) As soon as you have finished filling in the 55 lines, do
the addition and subtraction indicated in each row to
complete each PEC score. Take note that for each row
there is always one subtraction to perform and an
addition of a constant number 6 at the end, except for
the last row where you have three subtraction
operations and a constant number 18. Make sure that
your sum on any PEC row (except the last row) does not
exceed 25. If it does, review your addition and
subtraction.
3.) The last row of your score sheet is marked Correction
Factor. The Correction Factor(the total of items 11,
22, 33, 44, and 55) is used to determine whether or not a
person tries to present a very favorable image of himself
or herself. Now look at your total for this row. If your
total score for this factor is 20 or greater, then the total
scores for the 10 PECs must be corrected to provide a
more accurate assessment of the strength of your PECs
score. If it is 19 or less, then this original score will also
be your corrected total.
4.) Copy the correction sheet on the next page and use it to
correct each PEC score. Under the column marked
Original Score, copy the score for each of your PEC.
In determining what number to fill in under the column
marked Correction Number, use the following bases:

If the correction factor Subtract the following
Score is: number from each PEC
Score
24 or 25 7
22 or 23 5
20 or 21 3
19 or less 0
Your Correction Number will apply to all the PECs.
Then, subtract the Correction Number from the
Original Score to get the Corrected Total.

5.) Refers to the PECs Profile Sheet that you accomplished
in Part A of this exercise. Using a different color pen,
transfer the Corrected Total for each PEC to the Profile
Sheet by marking an X at the appropriate point on the
horizontal line for PEC.
Example: If the score for opportunity-seeking is 17,
it will appear as follows:
Opportunity-Seeking
: ____ : ____ : ____ : ____ : ____ :
0 5 10 15 20 25
Draw a heavy vertical line connecting the Xs for each
PEC. You have now constructed your PECs Profile.
6.) Organize a five-member discussion group with
Classmates. Discuss the following questions:
a.) Which of the two graphs do you think better
approximates your PECs? Why?
b.) Based on the second graph, which PECs are you
strong at relative to the other PECs (that is, those
with ratings higher than most of the PECs)?
c.) Which PECs are you weak at relative to the other
PECs (that is, those with ratings lower than most of
the PECs)?
d.) After reviewing the results of your Self-Rating
Questionnaire and discussing your PECs Profile
with some of your classmates, single out three (3)
PECs in particular to focus your attention on. These
are PECs you either want to strengthen because
they are weak ones or PECs you want to build on
further because they are already strong. Copy and
answer the following.
PEC 1: _____________________________________________
This PEC is one of my:
( ) Strengths
( ) Weaknesses
( ) Neither a strength nor a weakness
If it is a weakness, how can you strengthen it?
If it is a strength, what will you do to build on this
further?
PEC 2: ______________________________________________
This PEC is one of my:
( ) Strengths
( ) Weaknesses
( ) Neither a strength nor a weakness
If it is a weakness, how can you strengthen it?
If it is a strength, what will you do to build on this
further?
