1. John 8:28-29
a. Jesus is the Son of Man and he is one with the father
b. This is not surprising to me because I have heard this time and again
c. A critic would say that it is a big claim and if it is not true would be a grave mistake to
claim
2. John 8: 46-47
a. Jesus is saying that there is no evidence that he is telling a falsehood. If you are holy and
like God you will understand and hear His word.
b. This I think sounds harsh but in reality it is not. God created us to be reflections of
himself and through sin that reflection is rippled thus there is a barrier between us and
God
c. A critic may not like this because it is stating that a person has to be like one thing, God.
The media today says that you can act and be whoever you want to be but that is not
true.
3. John 14:6
a. Jesus is basically saying that he is the way, not that he know the way. People must
follow him.
b. I think Jesus is summarizing the path we must take to get to heaven. Being like Jesus is
hard so this path is narrow
c. A skeptic might think, why do I have to do it your way? Cant I get to heaven my own
way?
4. Matthew 11.27
a. Jesus is saying that God is above us in the world. He knows all and we really only know
what he allows us to know.
b. I think this is a really hard concept because so often as humans we think we know it all.
But all of that knowledge comes from God. He only allows us to know them a he
pleases. We dont know all, we only know a portion
c. A critic might think that this is not true because they might think that through science
they can figure out more information about the world and that God doesnt open up
that information too us.
5. John 1:15
a. John is saying that God is above him in every way because God existed before him, God
is eternal.
b. I think this statement goes hand in hand with the previous verse because it is again
stating how God knows more than us and is above us.
c. A critic might say down right reject this statement because they cannot accept or
fathom its meaning.
6. John 17:5
a. This verse is really tough to understand, I really dont get it. Sorry Mr. Wood.
b. Because it is so hard to understand I would ponder it and ask for the guidance of the
Holy Spirit.

c. A critic I think would take this the wrong way because it sounds misleading and there is
a meaning underneath the surface.
7. Luke 5:20-21
a. Jesus just forgave the sins of the man. And the Pharisees are outraged and confused by
this action because by saying this Jesus is calling Himself the Son of God. They think he is
blasphemous because no one has ever claimed to be the Son of God.
b. I like this verse because it shows Gods great and abundant mercy for his creation. He
loves, not condemns.
c. I think critics would be able to accept this verse. I feel like it is not controversial. If you
believe Jesus is God then you believe He can forgive sins but whether you believe that
power was passed to the disciples is another story.
8. Luke 7: 48-49
a. This verse is similar to that last but this time the spectators do know accuse him of
blasphemy but rather are in awe of who he might be.
b. I like this verse because I can easily see that Jesus could be talking to me because he is
speaking to a woman.
c. Critics might be like the Pharisees in the previous verse and jump to conclusions about
who he claims to be.
9. John 6:40
a. Jesus is promising eternal life to those who has their eyes and minds set on the Lord to
have eternal life. Jesus will raise them on the last day.
b. This verse is like a vision of what our end goal is. Jesus is reminded us of the goal and
how worth all the sacrifice will be once we get there
c. Skeptics might look at this and not like it because many people find it hard to trust in
God and therefore many not believe that He would actually raise them up.
10. John 6:47
a. The verse is pretty self-explanatory, if you believe in Christ and follow him you will get
to heaven.
b. Again, this is pretty much the same as the previous verse, follow Christ and you will live.
Because it is repeated twice or more times it is clear this is important
c. Critics might think that it is not that simple to get to heaven. It is simple but it is just
difficult
11. John 10:28-30
a. Jesus is saying that he is almighty and there is nothing more powerful than him that can
pull us away from his loving hands.
b. I like this verse because it gives the image of a loving father. When we think of a father
we think of strong hands and that is the image that Jesus is using to show his love and
protection.
c. Skeptics might think that sin is more powerful than God because it pulls us away from
him. However, sin is a choice on our part and God never stops loving us. Nothing can
stop the father from loving his children

a. Jesus is saying that even if you die on earth if you followed Christ then you will have
eternal life in heaven.
b. Most of this is the same as some verses already stated. Believe and live in Christ and you
will have eternal life. The difference in this verse is that Jesus says he is the resurrection.
What does this mean? What does Jesus mean when he says he is the resurrection? Not
sure, but deffinately something to ponder.
c. This verse sounds contradictory because how can a person die but still have life? They
may not know that his is a comparison to the physical life and spiritual life.
