ARAK REFINERY EXPANSION AND PRODUCTS UPGRADING PROJECT

Project Description
The PROJECT intends to implement an expansion revamp and products
upgrading and also to investigate the impacts of this revamp and
expansion on the overall operation of existing units and facilities of ARAK
Refinery.
In order to achieve the following objectives, revamp of the existing facilities
such as Crude atmospheric Distillation and Vacuum Distillation Units
(CDU/VDU) and adding the new process units are implemented.
(1) Maximize gasoline production with achieving the products meeting
EU2005 specification.
(2) Increase throughput of CDUs from 150,000 BPSD to 249,100 BPSD by
installing a new 80,000 BPSD CDU (existing CDU can process
169,100 BPSD as proven by current operation)
(3) Produce kerosene, diesel and fuel oil products in compliance with new
environmental regulation
The outline of the process units for the PROJECT is summarized below:

69,180 BPSD New Residue Hydrotreater will be


installed to reduce sulfur, metal and
CCR content in RFCC feedstock.

sulfur content less than 50 wtppm.

CGH

50,500 BPSD New CGH will be installed to meet the


gasoline specification, sulfur content
less than 50 wtppm.

LPG Merox

28,105 BPSD New LPG Merox unit will be installed for


treating LPGs from new CDU and
RFCC.

PRU

28,105 BPSD New Propylene Recovery Unit will be


installed to produce polymer grade
propylene, Propane and Butane/Butene.

Existing VBU

27,300 BPSD

Operation of the existing Visbreaker unit


is required only during One train of RCD
is shut-down for catalyst replacement.
While both trains of RCD are operating,
the Visbreaker unit will be idling
operation.

In accordance with installation of the new units and modifications of the


existing facilities, the following facilities will also be newly installed for
supporting operation.

(1) New Hydrogen Plant


(2) New Amine Treating and Sour Water Stripping Unit
(3) New Sulfur Recovery and Sulfur Solidification Unit
The following systems and facilities will be also revamped for supporting
increased refinery capacity:
- Existing Fuel Gas System
- Existing Flare System with New Flare Stack
- Existing Utility Facilities
- Existing Offsite Facilities
