FARMAKOTERAPI 2
SEMESTER GASAL 2014/2015

1. Sondra Lee Evan is a 30-year-old female who presented for an obstetrics follow-up 6 weeks
post-miscarriage. She was 10 weeks pregnant at the time of her miscarriage.She has been off
work since the miscarriage and complains of arthralgia and extreme fatigue She is not on any
medications. She does take a multivitamin. Her other complaints include decreased appetite,
joint swelling and stiffness, and difficulty sleeping.
Mrs. Evan has been married for six years and has one 5-year-old son. Mrs. Evan is of African
American/American Indian descent. Her parents are alive and in good health. Her mother has
type 2 diabetes mellitus that is controlled with lifestyle changes and oral medications. Her
father has hypertension that is controlled by lifestyle changes (dietary changes, exercise, and
weight loss) and medication. Both sets of grandparents have died from a motor vehicle
accident, or from complications from diabetes mellitus or heart disease.
What could Pharmacist suggest to doctor for treating this patient?

3. 56 yo male presents to the clinic with a new onset rash (ronchas as he described, which
translates to hives) that appeared abruptly and without any impending event within the past
day. Since its initial appearance which started in his abdomen, it has since spread all over his
thorax and upper back, as well as to both arms. He also notes that it has begun to itch, and
becomes even worse when he scratches. Sometimes it rather feels like burning than pain. He
denies any recent shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, and denies any other associated
symptoms including fevers, nausea/vomiting, chills/sweats, or any pain. He has never had
this problem in the past, and denies any previous food allergies. He does not note any recent
eliciting event, or any particular food that he believes may have caused this reaction. He has
not taken any recent medicine or treatment for his symptoms, including aspirin, NSAIDs,
antibiotics, herbs, and supplements.
With that complaints, what should you, pharmacist, suggest to this patient?
