THE TRUE WIRELESS ENERGY TRANSMISSION-RECEPTION PRIZE:

$250.00 to the first person documenting long range energy transmission using the Tesla wireless
method described in U.S. Patent No. 645,576, SYSTEM OF TRANSMISSION OF ELECTRICAL
ENERGY, dated March 20, 1900.

PURPOSE:

To demonstrate the system's efficacy on a small scale, the cash prize of $250.00 has been
established, to be given to the first person documenting the nonradiative transmission and
reception of electrical energy over a distance of 10 or more times the free space wavelength of
the operating frequency, hereinafter referred to as the "wavelength" using a Tesla coil transmitter
and a Tesla coil receiver.

There is no minimum power transfer requirement, just that which is needed to activate a detector,
sensitive device, or other receiving instrument.

It must be demonstrated that some mechanism other than or in addition to ordinary radio waves
is involved in the transfer of energy between the Tesla coil transmitting station and the Tesla coil
receiving station. This is to be done using a radio receiver that is tunable to the Tesla coil
transmitter's operating frequency, and that is more sensitive to radio waves than it is to the non-
radiating electromagnetic field energy associated with the Tesla coil transmitter. The radio
receiver's antenna must be configured in such a way so that it is more sensitive to radio waves
than it is to the nonradiative emissions of the Tesla coil transmitter. Tuned air core magnetic
loop, and tuned ferrite core magnetic loop antennas are acceptable types. The vertical 1/2-wave
dipole antenna, with or without loading coils, suspended ¼ wavelength or more above the ground
is also an acceptable type. Grounded monopole and low-counterpoise radio antennas are not
acceptable types. See WIRELESS ENERGY TRANSMISSION INTERIM SUMMARY
STATEMENT for additional words about the experimental protocol.

DEFINITIONS:

Nonradiative energy transfer Energy transfer between a wireless transmitter and a wireless
receiver not involving ordinary radio waves.

Radio wave A far-field electromagnetic wave that is no longer associated with its source, having
its E- and H-field components in phase.

RULES:

1. The operating frequency shall be between 5 kHz and 175 kHz.

2. Both the transmitter and receiver shall have a size defined as being able to fit inside a vertical
cylindrical volume the height and diameter of which are limited to .02 x wavelength.

3. The transmission distance will be measured between the vertical centerline of the Tesla coil
transmitter and Tesla coil receiving transformer, and must be at least 10 x wavelength.

4. Amplification, regeneration, heterodyning, and/or any other receiving technique that might be
developed is allowed.
5. The detected energy shall be observed for a period of 60 seconds or more with a 50% duty
cycle, and be demonstrated to originate from the source by 20 or more interruptions of the
transmitted signal.

6. Correlation between the transmitted and received signals shall be by cellular telephone or any
other FCC type-approved wireless telecommunications device.

7. A ground wire between the transmitter and receiver is not allowed.

8. The transmitter and receiver must be grounded to the earth within the cylindrical volume.

9. The Tesla coil transmitter and the Tesla coil receiving transformer may not be connected to
any common power utility ground network, or common water or gas distribution system.

10. A white-paper fully documenting the work shall be created and published on the World Wide
Web, and an abstract of said white-paper containing a link to the full paper shall be posted on the
Tesla Coil Mailing List [TCML; tesla@pupman.com ].
