Features

New features in Release 2.1.6

Feature set for Release 2.1.6
Remote Defect Indication

The Remote Defect Indication is an improvement of Automatic Link Shutdown (ALiS)

feature to allow bi-directional notification of the failure and faster detection of the end-toend Ethernet link failure.
For example, in case of ODU Rx failure, ALiS is activated and the Ethernet port is closed
on the local site.
With AWY 2.1.6, this failure is also reported to the far-end (see Figure 1: Mechanism of
Remote Defect Indication), which also closes its Ethernet port, thus enabling faster
Ethernet link failure detection and re-routing of the traffic.

Figure 1: Mechanism of Remote Defect Indication

The Remote Defect Indication will be triggered based on the following radio criteria:

ODU fail

Loss Of Frame

ODU Rx fail

ODU Dem fail

HBER (BER 10-4)

When any of these radio failure criteria disappear, the Ethernet ports shutdown with ALiS
will recover to enable and working state.

Features

Link Loss Forwarding

The target of the Link Loss Forwarding feature is to allow an AWY link to simulate an
Ethernet link and to provide faster detection of failures in order to enable re-routing and
protection functions.
A typical use case is for example ring configurations, where a failure on a link will trigger
a switch to the protection path.
The feature can be enabled on ONE of the four Ethernet ports available on AWY IDU.
It uses an evolution of the Remote Defect Indication and Automatic Link Shutdown
features.
As illustrated in Figure 2: Mechanism of Link Loss Fowarding, when a failure or cable
loss on the local Ethernet port is detected (1), the local NE sends a Remote Defect
Indication to the remote NE (2), triggering an automatic shutdown of the remote Ethernet
port (3). The router is thus informed of the Ethernet link failure and can re-route the
traffic (4).
This feature is optional and is disabled by default.
Note: Enabling this feature will prevent usage of ALiS (Automatic Link Shutdown) on
the remaining Ethernet ports.

Figure 2: Mechanism of Link Loss Fowarding

The Ethernet port shutdown on the remote site occurs less than 1050 ms after the link
failure on the local site, which is faster than the reactivity achieved for instance with BFD
protocol in most case.
With Link Loss Forwarding & Remote Defect Indication, 9400 AWY behaves like a
regular Ethernet link and provides a reliable solution for the backhauling in an
Ethernet network.
Configuration of Link Loss Forwarding:
In order to use this functionality, operators have to manually create a flag file with name
SpecialAlisEnabled (case sensitive) into the home/adm-lc-ng/debug folder in the
flash card. The content of the file is empty. By default, this flag doesnt exist.

Features

Prior release features

Description

This section summarizes all features from prior releases.

Alcatel-Lucent 9400 AWY R2 family has been conceived using split mount approach
with an ODU (Outdoor Unit) for transceivers extended from the low frequencies (7GHz)
up to very high frequencies (38GHz) and an IDU (Indoor Unit) for base-band, pushing
equipment flexibility and scalability, easy deployment and quick commissioning.

Between the two main units above, the system uses a single standard coaxial cable
carrying the main traffic, the remote supply voltage and auxiliary information over long
runs.
The ODU is independent on the configuration and it can be used with integrated or
separate antenna.
Two versions of modular IDU are available:

main IDU (alone in 1+0) with 16E1 basic version

o data plug-in in option (4x10/100/1000 Mbits/s)
o 16 E1 plug-in in option

extension IDU (complementary of main IDU in 1+1) with 16E1 basic version
o 16 E1 plug-in in option (for 32E1 1+1 full protection configuration only)

The configuration choice is made by Craft Terminal provide that an appropriate software
key (flash card) and daughter boards (if any) are inserted in the IDU.

Configurations:

The following configurations are supported

1+0 (unprotected)

1+1 HSB

1+1 HSB with space diversity (SD)

1+1 FD

Issues

Resolved issues
Resolved issues in Release 2.1.6:

NM windows opening time improvement

An improvement was implemented both on 9400AWY and 1350OMS, in order to
significantly reduce the opening time of the various windows on the network manager,
when connecting to an AWY network element.
Since AWY R2.1.5 and 1350 OMS NR8.1 PL1, the requests use an http proxy, which
allow faster NE data retrieval.
In particular, first opening duration has been reduced from at least 100-110 sec (and
sometimes > 150 sec) down to 50-55 sec (depending on NE configuration).

Issues

Known issues
Known issues in Release 2.1.6:

The following is a list of issues found in Release 2.1.6.

Note: bracketed () references are internal tracking number
Remote Defect
Indication

In order to avoid hysteresis behaviors, a restore time for the local

Ethernet port and for the RF far-end NE is defined, and set to 30 seconds
in both cases. Therefore, when the RDI cause is cleared, the local
Ethernet port will startup 30 seconds later, and the far-end NE Ethernet
port will startup 30 seconds afterwards.
The value of the wait-to-restore (WTR) timer can be modified inside the
file called alistime (case sensitive) in the home/adm-lc-ng/debug folder
of the flashcard. The content of the file is the WTR time. The operator
can set values 1 to 120, representing 1 second to 120 seconds. [CRI

00331040.01]

Known issues in prior Releases:

Traffic

TCO CT

Local NE TPS switch may trigger ALiS on the remote NE

Under very low occurrence, when ALis is enable (disable by defaukt),
local TPS can lead to HBER alarm on both channels of remote site, and
consequently, trigger Ethernet port ALiS on the remote NE. When the
HBER alarm disappears (after a few seconds), the Ethernet port is again
enabled and working.
Traffic outage after capacity change (very seldom)
On very seldom occasions, after capacity change, it may happen that
one E1 tributary disappears from the CT, causing traffic impact. In such
case, the NE should be restarted to recover the traffic. This behavior
already exists in previous AWY releases.
ERROR alarm displayed when changing QoS mode from 802.1p to
Diffserv
In case of connecting WebEML to NE through F interface, when changing
QoS mode from 802.1p to Diffserv, there is false Set Error alarm.
Actually this configuration is successfully applied to NE.
RPS only configuration: diagram doesn't indicate E1Trib alarm
In RPS only configuration, the E1 TRIB alarm is not shown in summary
block diagram view.
JUSM down when Tx mute on/off
Sometimes (occurancy 30%), while putting Tx Mute on/off, WebEML is

automatically closed.
In this case, the operator must relaunch WebEML.
License key not updated
When updating license key from WebEML, sometimes (occurancy 10%),
it is not successfully applied to NE.
Workaround: - reapply 2-10 times
OR - apply the new license key from Alarm& Setting tools
RPS command makes ALiS invalid
When ALiS is enabled, if there is a radio alarm on CH0 (main channel),
Ethernet port status is changed to enable not working by ALiS, then
the radio switch to CH1.
CH1 having no radio alarm, ALiS must change the Ethernet port status
to enable and working but it doesnt.
Work around: disable ALiS, manually change Ethernet port to enable
and working, then enable ALiS.
Power Measurement is temporarily lost after applying TX
mute/unmute on the remote NE
After applying tx mute/unmute on the remote NE, during five
minutes, the PowerMeasurement is lost.
After 5 minutes, PowerMeasurement message comes back.
Wrong display of Rx frequencies on WebEML for ODU V2 7 GHz
With the TCO, the ODU V2 7GHZ/161A 1p is well recognised. The
minimum and maximum values for Tx frequencies are correct (72855007355500 Khz), but the maximum value for Rx frequencies is wrong:
7134500 instead of 7194500 (7355500-161000).
This has no impact in the functionality.
Traffic outage after capacity change (very seldom)
On very seldom occasions, after capacity change, it may happen that
one E1 tributary disappears from the CT, causing traffic impact. In such
case, the NE should be restarted to recover the traffic.
AWY 2.1.x TMN-IN FRAME FUNCTION
The TMN-inFrame function only works in E1 tributary slot 1. And,
when there is an AIS alarm, the TMN-in-Frame doesnt work.

Abnormal problem after changing queue weight from 1 to 0

When the operator changes one queues weight from 1 to 0, the remaining
packets in the queue are transmitted with the highest weight. After all
the packets in the queue are transmitted, this queue will be closed.
Recovery time after capacity change is longer
Since 2.1.3, after capacity change, the Ethernet traffic recovery time is
around 2 min; whereas in 2.1.2 it was around 1min. The reason for this
is that FPGA is updated.
After SW download fail, new download KO
When the first SW download fails, the operator must reset NE before trying
a new SW download.

Software upgrade
Description

The following sections contain information on upgrading to the R2.1.6 software version
(upgrade process, traffic interruption).
Upgrade paths

This section provides information regarding all supported upgrade paths to Release 2.1.6.
Release upgrade interrupts data traffic during 20s in average for E1 traffic and 50s
for Ethernet traffic. No traffic impact when upgrading from R2.1.4 or R2.1.5.
When upgrading from 2.1.0/2.1.1/2.1.2/2.1.2MR/2.1.3 to 2.1.6, the Ethernet traffic is cut
during approximately 50 seconds.
Traffic interruption is also noted in the following table:

Once the software is upgraded, it is very difficult to return to a previous software release.
If software needs to be returned to a prior release, CONTACT YOUR NEXT LEVEL OF
SUPORT BEFORE BEGINNING.

Read the entire software installation procedure before beginning.

The person performing the software installation must be trained and have an
understanding of the 9400 AWY, personal computers, and safety recommendations.

Installation and/or Upgrade procedure

Please refer to the 9400 AWY User Manual, for the detailed installation and / or upgrade
procedure.
IMPORTANT:
After upgrading to R2.1.6, the operator has to manually insert the following line to the
