Over 1,000 visiting professionals took part in the ARCHMARATHON, the event, which
took place over the 14th, 15th and 16th of November at the East End Studios and which
turned Milan into the World Capital of Architecture.
The first edition of the ARCHMARATHON finished on Sunday the 16 th November. Three
hectic days from Friday the 14 th to Sunday 16th of an international exchange of ideas,
know-how and relationships against a top-notch cultural background.
Despite the adverse weather conditions and the public transport strike on Friday 14 th, the
results in terms of attendance were more than enough reward for the effort put in by
ARCHMARATHON to create an unprecedented concept for the world of architecture,
recording the presence of over 1,000 visiting professionals.
The feedback from the architects participating in the event was very positive both in
terms of the projects presented by the 42 international studios and in terms of the quality
of the selected partners who as if to underline the strong cultural nature of the event,
undertook to use their exhibition spaces exclusively for developing relationships and
making contacts.
Among the 42 projects presented, the international jury - co-chaired by Lucy Bullivant
and Luca Molinari decided to award the prestigious ARCHMARATHON Prize to the
Grupo Aranea for the Twisted Valley project.
In addition, the best project from each of the nine categories received an award (Arts,
Education, Sports, Workspaces, Urban Design/Regeneration, Private Housing, Mixed
Tenure Housing, Transport, Retrofitting/Refurbishment).
A final award was made by the internauts who through their voting on the events
website, awarded the ARCHMARATHON Crowd Award to GAD for the Besiktas
Fishmarket project.
During the prize-giving ceremony which took place at the end of the event, a cheque for
10,000 was presented to Franco Masello, Founder and Honorary President of the Citt
della Speranza, an organization that has worked for years in the area of research into
children affected by cancer. The money was collected thanks to donations made by
visitors and through the booking service which donated all the money received. The
donation will be used to finance a project carried out by one of the Foundations
researchers.
The next edition of ARCHMARATHON will take place in 2016.
