Introduction
There is an old saying, you can take a horse to the water but you cannot force it to
drink; it will drink only it’s thirsty – so with people. They will do what they want
to do or otherwise motivated to do. Whether it is to excel in the workshop they
must be motivated or driven to it, either by themselves or through external
stimulus.

Are they born with self motivation or drive? If no they can be motivated for
motivation is a skill which can and must be learnt and practiced. This is essential
for any business to survive and succeed.

In this assignment the motivational practices of Hirdramani Industries (private)

Limited is mentioned and discussed.
For the ease of study the motivational practices used by Hirdramani
Industries (private) Limited can be categorized in to few groups.
01. Motivation by good Salary and reward system.

02. Motivation by keeping good discipline & cleanliness inside the organization.

03. Motivation by giving secure working environment to the employees.

04. Motivation by Special welfare activities.

05. Other offerings to further develop the employee’s career.

01. Motivation by good Salary and reward system.
• Reward employees by using the grading system according to their
performance.
• Reward for taking least or no off days in normal working days.
• Offering a bonus of doubled monthly salary in April & December.
• Payment for overtime working is 1 1/2 times as normal hours.
• Payment for Sunday working is two times as other days.
• Selecting the best employee of the month & the year based on talent,
dedication, and discipline and offer him/her a certificate with cash reward.
• Annually a compulsory salary increment for each & every employee.

When this kind of motivation practices are used,

Strengths;

 The employees are willing to work long hours.

 Employees are motivated to not to be absent and late attending to the work.
 Employees are setting their own goals & trying their best to achieve them.
 Create the feeling “The company is offering me so much & I also return by
giving very best of me to the company” in employee’s mind.
 Automatically the employee drives towards the higher performance.
 By a good reward system stealing of company’s properties can be
minimized.

Weaknesses;

 In the days that the employees are not fit for the work also they come to the
work & performing less.
 Competition among the employees will cause some collisions inside the
organization.
 When one employee was nominated as the best employee the others who
were expecting to get that award will be de motivated.
 Because the payment is more in Sundays & over times the employees
deliberately will tend to hold over their works in normal days.
02. Motivation by keeping good discipline & cleanliness inside the
organization

If any employee faced with any annoyance inside the organization he has the
authority to complain to the higher level.

The factory premises is maintained at its very best level of cleanliness

03. Motivation by providing secure working environment & medical
facilities to the employees.
• All the machinery inside the factory are maintained and repaired
consistently.
• Training period is offered for the new employees to be familiar with the
machinery.
• All the employees are provided a safety kit including goggles, shoes, glows,
masks.
• In an emergency situation it is communicated quickly to all the employees &
they are expected to use the emergency exits as they practiced before how
to react to the such situations.
• Medical unit is established in the factory premises to treat employees’
physical or mental disabilities & two well trained nurses are in charge of the
unit.
• A medical clinic conducted twice a weak by a specialized doctor at the
medical unit.

Strengths;

 The employee is well aware of the working environment, machinery &

equipment. So it is easier to work him at any place of the factory.
 The employees will not hesitate to do their work because they know the
surrounding is very much safer to him to work.
 Medical facilities will help the employees to maintain their physical &
mental strength to perform well.
 Because the employees are well protected the potential delays can be
avoided.

Weaknesses;

 It is highly time, money & effort consuming to give a good training for all
the employees. If an employee leaves the company after getting that training
it is a big loss form company’s point of view.
04. Motivation by Special welfare activities.

• Cafeteria facilities to have the meals.

• Provide lockers to keep the belongings.
• Twice a year the employees can buy company’s garments at a very lower
price (new year & Christmas seasons).
• Giving the breakfast for free & the lunch at a half price.
• Annual pirith chanting ceremony & alms giving.
• Cricket tournament between other correlated companies.
• Poson bathi gee prasangaya.
• Annual trip.
• Annual Art ceremony.

Strengths;

 The employees will get a nutritious meal at a lower price & it helps to keep
physical & mental strength & also their performance level up.
 All the activities will help to develop friendships, communication, between
the various departments & also different levels of employees.
 From these activities the employees will get a chance to get rid of the stress
they had at the work place & do better when he comes to work next day.

Weaknesses;

 Conducting such events requires some manpower from the company. So a

significant decrease of productivity can be seen.
05. Other offerings to further develop the employee’s career.

 If an employee require to do further education (degree, masters degree etc..)

the company will give them leaves with salary & also significant amount of
the course fees depend on the time that he worked for the company.
 If an employee came with an innovation he will be rewarded depending on
the benefit that it gives to the company. If he wants to further develop or get
the patient for that
