1. Calculate the grades (A-F) in Excel if we have the test results as numbers? We
know that a score of 90% or higher is an A, 80-89% is a B, 70-79% is a C, 6569% is a D and less than 65% is an F. Make a grade card for twenty students.
2.

3. Assume you own a book store and have 100 books in storage. You sell a certain
% for the highest price of $50 and a certain % for the lower price of $20. But
what if you sell 70% for the highest price? What if you sell 80% for the highest
price? And 90%, or even 100%? Create a data table for what-if analysis.

4. Imagine you have three factories producing 100, 200 and 300 units of items
respectively. The demand from each customer is 200 units. The following table
summarises the unit cost of shipment from each factory to respective customer:
Unit

Factory2
Factory3

Customer3

Use the solver in Excel to find the number of units to ship from each factory to
each customer that minimizes the total cost.

5. Assume you own a book store and have 100 books in storage. You sell a certain
% for the highest price of $50 and a certain % for the lower price of $20. But
what if you sell 70% of the highest price at $70? What if you sell 80% for the
highest price at $80? What if you sell 90% for the highest price at $95? Create a
data table for what-if analysis.

7. A machine shop foreman wishes to schedule two types of parts, each of which
have undergo turning, milling, and grinding operations on three different
machines. The time per lot for the two parts available, machine time, and profit
margins are provided in the following table:

Schedule the lots for maximisation of profits.

9. Imagine you are a cycle trader dealing in three products bicycles, mopeds and
child seats. The unit profit from selling of each product is 100, 300 and 50
respectively. The available capital is 93000 and storage is 101 units. The amount of

capital and storage used by the products are:

Capital
Storage

Bicycle

Moped

Use the solver in Excel to find out how much to order of each product (bicycles,
mopeds and child seats) to maximise the profit.

10. Consolidate the data from following tables:

Create a Chart for the Total Annual Sales.

11. Calculate the discount on purchase in Excel. We know that the discount on
purchase of Rs.900 or higher is 20%, Rs.800 to 899 is a 15%, Rs.700-799 is
10%, Rs.650-699 is 5%. Make a bill for 15 items.
12. A machine shop foreman wishes to schedule two types of parts, each of which
have undergo turning, milling, and grinding operations on three different
machines. The time per lot for the two parts available, machine time, and profit
margins are provided in the following table:

Schedule the lots for maximisation of profits.

13. A refinery uses three different crude oils (lights crude costs $40 per barrel,
medium crude costs $35 per barrel, and heavy crude cost $30 per barrel) to
produce gasoline, heating oil, jet fuel and lube oil. The yield of these per barrel of
each type of product is given in the following table:

The demand is 8 million barrels of gasoline, 6 million barrels of heating oil, 7

million barrels of jet fuel, and 3 million barrels of lube oil. Determine the
amounts of light crude, medium crude, and heavy crude to be purchased for
minimum cost.
14. Imagine that you manage a factory that produces four different types of wood
panelling. Each type of panelling is made by gluing and pressing together a
different mixture of pine and oak chips. The following table summarizes the
required amount of gluing, pressing, and mixture of wood chips required to
produce a pallet of 50 units of each type of panelling:

In the next production cycle, you have 5,800 quarts of glue; 730 hours of
pressing capacity; 29,200 pounds of pine chips; and 60,500 pounds of oak chips
available. Further assume that each pallet of Tahoe, Pacific, Savannah, and Aspen
panels can be sold for profits of $450, $1,150, $800, and $400, respectively.
15. Imagine you are a supervisor, who assign task to the workers. Subject to:
Each person can only do one task.
Each task only needs one person.
Cost to get the task done is as per the table below:

You have to find out which person to assign to which task so as to minimise the
cost.
