INTRODUCTION
Air conditioner is a device for cooling and controlling the humidity and purity of

the air circulating in a space.

As day time is starting to become more and more unbearable, as fans would only
constantly stir the hot sticky air around, so the researchers ended up in choosing this
topic. The researchers chose this topic mainly because of the hot weather here in the
Philippines especially here in Cabanatuan City that has an average temperature of twenty
nine point ninety five degrees Celsius (29.95 C). The constant high temperature was the
main reason this came up to the researchers minds. This particular design is a lowmaintenance version that requires no water drainage. The materials needed to conduct the
product were also cheap and easy to find, which was very sufficient for people to make.

II.

OBJECTIVES

The objective of the improvised air conditioner is to help people to make the weather
little more bearable. Not only that, but it aims to substitute a high class and expensive air
conditioner to make it affordable, easy to make, rather effective, portable and reusable.
The purpose of the project is to provide a cool air without consuming a lot of electricity.
At the same time, it may help the users to cool their drinks while using it. In addition, the
researchers intend to identify which voltage can give the lowest temperature, slowest
melting time, the highest percentage of relative humidity and what is best to use.

III.

MATERIALS AND METHOD

Materials used
Researchers used the following materials
1. DC brushless fan - used to ventilate the ice.
2. Elbow PVC pipe used for the air passage.
3. Digital thermometer with external probe used for measuring the temperature
coming out from the pipe.
4. 1000 mA Adaptor used for changing the amount of voltage.
5. Styrofoam ice box used for preserving the ice.
6. Cutter used for making an opening to the box.
7. Electric tape used for covering the wires.
8. Marker used for marking the Styrofoam.
9. Tube ice it was the source of cold air.
10. Screw driver used for tightening the screws.
11. Scissors used for cutting the wires.
12. Omni Switch used for tuning on and off of the device.

Procedures in Construction of Improvised Air Conditioner

1. Buy and prepare all the materials needed.
2. Mark the Styrofoam according to the size of the brushless fan, omni surface
switch and elbow PVC pipe.
3. Carefully cut the Styrofoam.

4. Install the brushless fan, omni surface switch and the elbow PVC pipe in the
Styrofoam.
5. Remove at least an inch of the rubber that covers the wires of the 12 V fan and the
1000 mA adaptor.
6. Connect the wires of the DC brushless fan by twisting and tightening the end in
the screw.
7. Connect the wires of the 1000 mA adaptor by twisting and tightening the end to
the other screw.
8. Put the 5 kilogram ice on the Styrofoam ice box.
9. Plug the adaptor.
10. Turn on the switch.
11. Use the digital thermometer with external probe for the temperature.

DISCUSSION

The researchers found out that when the ice used was tube ice, the lowest voltage has
the highest temperatures and almost consistent that the temperature was not enough to
cool a 20 square meter room while when the voltage used was higher the temperature was
lessened and has quicker melting time but when the highest voltage was used it has
reached its lowest temperature but has the fastest melting time. The researchers also
found out that when the ice used was tube ice, the voltage was directly proportional to the
percentage of relative humidity, the higher the voltage the higher relative humidity.
Meanwhile, when ice block was used the voltage was indirectly proportional to the
temperature; as the voltage decreased the temperature increased while the percentage
relative humidity was directly proportional to the voltage; as the voltage increased the
percentage relative humidity also increased.

VI.

CONCLUSION
The researchers conclude that the improvised air conditioner can help people to

make the weather little more bearable. The improvised air conditioner was more
affordable than the high class but expensive air conditioners, easy to make, rather
effective, portable and can be used again. The improvised air conditioner can also
supply a cool air without consuming a lot of electricity. At the same time, it can serve
as a cooler to their drinks.
The researchers also found out that when the tube ice was used, 12 volts has the
lowest temperature and 6 volts has the slowest melting time. Also, the 12 volts has
8

the highest percentage of relative humidity and the best voltage to use in a limited
amount of ice was 9 volts.
Otherwise, when the ice used was ice block 12 volts has the lowest temperature
and 6 volts has the slowest melting time. In addition, 12 volts was the highest
percentage relative humidity and also the best voltage to use.
