The AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) version of Samsung Electronics Co.s (KRX:005935) Galaxy Note 3, with the model number SM-N900A, began receiving the
latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat official firmware update on Thursday.
According to an AT&T blog post, the new firmware update includes key enhancements to the user interface, phone dialer app, focus and exposure, and
gallery apps. Here are some more details about the new features and improvements from the blog post:
- Improved user interface: The latest version of Android includes enhancements such as re-styled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen-immersive
mode, color emoji support, improved closed-captioning support, stronger security and smarter power use.
- Default messaging app: Choose a default messaging app when multiple messaging services are installed.
- Improved GPS performance.
- Enhanced music access: Full-screen album art and media controls are available from the lock screen when listening to music.
- Camera access: The camera can also be accessed directly from the lock screen.
- Location menu: An integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS and share location details.
- Wireless printing: Integrated support for wireless printing available in enhanced settings.
- New sound controls: Set sound for specific Samsung applications in enhanced settings.
The new update, which comes in the form of software version N900AUCUCNC2, is 542MB in size and is currently being delivered via an over-the-air, or
OTA, update. Users can go to the Settings icon in the apps menu > Select the More Tab > Tap About Device > Select Software Update > Select Check for
Updates and follow on-screen instructions to install the new OS.
Although some devices may not initially receive the firmware immediately, an XDA Forum member called motive has managed to mirror the update.
A manual process to install the firmware is explained below. Before launching the process, here are certain aspects that users should be aware of:
- All data should have proper back-up.

- The handset must have at least 80 percent battery power.

- The USB drivers for the device must be installed on the computer and USB Debugging must be enabled.
- After flashing the firmware, any installed custom ROM will be lost as it will be replaced by the stock firmware.
- Custom recovery, such as ClockworkMod Recovery or TWRP, will also be lost.
- The AT&T Galaxy Note 3 must be running on the official Android 4.3 N900AUCUBNB4 stock firmware with no root and custom recovery installed.
Note: International Business Times cannot be held responsible for anything that goes wrong. Users should proceed at their own risk.
Tutorial
Step 1: Download the OTA package. [Mirror]
Step 2: Rename the OTA file to update.zip.
Step 3: Connect the device to the computer via USB cable.
Step 4: Copy the zip file to root of the phones internal or external SD card. Note that the zip file should be transferred to the root directory of either
storage. Dont put the file inside any folder on the card.
Step 5: Boot into Recovery Mode. To do this, power off the phone and hold down Home, Power and Volume Up buttons together. Release the three
buttons as soon as you see the Samsung logo on the devices screen.
Step 6: In the Recovery Mode, select Apply update.zip if the file is copied to internal SD card, or select Apply update from external storage if you
transferred the file to external storage.
(Use Volume buttons to navigate between options and Power button to select an option)
Step 7: Locate and select the file then hit Install.
Step 8: Wait for the flashing process to be completed, and once it is done, select Reboot from the main menu in recovery.
