normal stockpiling to maintain 90 day capacity required by IAE.

CANADA- as a net importer, Canada is not required to have strategic reserves by IAEA.
There have been some calls for it though. A research institute released a report this
January calling for one. If they were required to hold 90 dyas supply it would be about

Hardisty
Hardisty, Alberta is emerging as the most important crude oil storage hub in Canada.
Enbridge operates 3 million barrels of salt cavern storage at Hardisty and is
currently constructing a new terminal with an initial capacity of 7.5 million barrels
of above ground storage which will be one of the largest crude oil storage terminals in
North America. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2009, with a
portion of the facilities going into service early in the year.

INDIAAs of 2005
India's current total crude oil storage capacity can meet the country's oil requirement for 19 days.
India's existing 7.3 mln tonnes of crude tankage and 6.8 mln tonnes product tankage capacity is
dangerously low.

In 2008
India currently does not maintain any strategic reserves; however oil companies do have
tank-age to store about 15 days of crude oil requirement and about 45 days of petroleum
product production

To ensure energy security, the Government of India has decided to set up 5
million metric tones (MMT) strategic crude oil storages at three locations namely,
Mangalore, Visakhapatnam and Padur (near Udupi). These strategic storages would be in
addition to the existing storages of crude oil and petroleum products with the oil
companies and would serve as a cushion in response to external supply disruptions. The
construction of the proposed strategic storage facilities is being managed by Indian
Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited (ISPRL), a Special Purpose Vehicle, owned by Oil
Industry Development Board (OIDB). he proposed storage sites are located near east and
west coasts so that they are readily accessible to the refining sector through marine
distribution. Strategic Crude Oil Reserves would be in underground rock caverns and are
expected to be operational by 2012.

NORWAY-

The terminal at Mongstad incorporates three jetties able to receive vessels up to 440,000
tonnes, as well as six caverns blasted in the bedrock 50 metres below ground. These
caverns have a total storage capacity of 1.5 million m3 of crude oil.
The Sture oil terminal at Stura in ygarden municipality near Bergen receives oil and
condensate via the pipeline from the Oseberg A facility as well as from the Oseberg,
Veslefrikk, Brage, Oseberg Sr, Oseberg st, Tune and Huldra fields. The terminal also
receives Grane oil through the Grane Oil Pipeline. The terminal began operating in
December 1988. It incorporates two jetties able to berth oil tankers up to 300,000
tonnes, five rock caverns for storing crude oil with a combined capacity of 1 million
scm, a 60,000 m3 rock cavern storage for LPG and a 200,000 m3 ballast water
cavern. .

UKUKs policy has been to make companies hold the strategic reserves. As crude oil
producer, they only have to hold 67.5 days worth.
