Chennai-based Gandhimathi Appliances Limited, incorporated in 1987, is a kitchen

appliances manufacturer with a major presence in Tamil Nadu.

Butterfly brand, over the past three decades, has become a household name in South
India. Besides Tamil Nadu, the company also markets its products in Kerala, Karnataka
and Andhra Pradesh and has recently forayed into Maharashtra and Gujarat.

The company has a manufacturing facility in Pudupakkam near Chennai and

manufactures gas stoves, pressure cooker, table-top wet grinder, mixer grinder and
vacuum flasks

It was the first in India to introduce stainless steel Pressure Cookers and Vacuum Flasks.

It has four state-of-the-art manufacturing units with in-house design and die-making
facilities.

It manufactures a comprehensive range of home appliances, kitchen products and

cookware of the best quality, the highest functionality and the latest styling.

It is a trusted name not only in India but also in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia,
Japan, Middle East and East Asian countries.

Key milestones

1986 Incorporated as a private limited company

1987 The commercial production of LPG Gas stoves and geysers
1989 Begin commercial production of mixer grinders
1990 The company went public
FY03 The company was declared a sick company under the BIFR Act
FY03-08 The company started focussing on gas stoves market and due to favourable tax
structure came out of BIFR eventually
FY12 Got the TN government order of Rs 2.8 bn .The company merged Gangadharam, a
promoter held company
FY13 Got a new TN government order of Rs 4.6 bn
