The air of density and moving with a velocity v strikes

perpendicularly the inclined surface of area A of a wedge kept on
a horizontal surface. The mass of the wedge is m. Assuming the
collisions to be perfectly inelastic, find the minimum value of the
coefficient of friction between the wedge and the ground so that
the wedge does not move. (Assume mass of particles of air is
negligible).

In the arrangement shown in the figure, there is a uniform

magnetic field Bo normal to the plane of the paper. The
vol/2
C
connector is smooth and conducting and it has mass m
l/2
and length l. Initially, the spring is relaxed. At time t = 0,
the connector is suddenly given velocity vo, as shown.
What is the charge acquired by the capacitor at this instant ? What will be the maximum compression
of the spring? The spring is non-conducting, the resistance of the rails is zero and neglect the self
inductance.
A solid uniform ball having volume V and density floats at the
interface of two immiscible liquids as shown in the figure. The
densities of the upper and the lower liquids are 1 and 2
respectively such 1 < < 2. Find the ratio of the volume of the
ball in the upper liquid to the lower liquid? (1 = /2, 2 = 5)
In system shown in the figure, a block B of negligible mass is
connected to a particle of mass 1 kg with a non-stretchable
string. Now the hanging particle is given a velocity 8gH
horizontally when system is at rest. Find the initial

2
acceleration of block B (in m/s ). (g = 10 m/s , H = 2 m).

The image of a point source, kept at origin O, forms

at point A due to transparent sphere of radius 10 cm
as shown in the figure. Here OX is the optical axis of
the sphere. Now, the sphere is cut into two equal
parts, along a plane perpendicular to the horizontal
axis OX and the plane surface of the left half (PRCS)
is silvered. The right half (PQSC) is removed. Find
the co-ordinate of image of point source O formed by
remaining silvered hemisphere.

Two point masses of 0.2 Kg and 0.5 kg are fixed at the ends of a light rod of length 1.4m. Find the
minimum moment of inertia of the rod about an axis perpendicular to the rod.

At what minimum K.E. of a moving hydrogen atom will its inelastic head-on collision with another
stationary hydrogen atom produce a photon emitted by one of the atoms? Both the atoms are
supposed to be in ground state prior to the collision. No heat lost.

Two infinitely long wires Q & R, each carrying current I are placed along
y and parallel to z axis respectively as shown in the figure. A point
charge +q having mass M is projected from the point P(a, a, 0) with
velocity vi vj as shown. Find the instantaneous acceleration (in

A sphere of mass M and radius R rests on two supports of the

same height. One support is stationary while the other is moving
with a velocity v (see in the figure). Assume the stationary
support is rough and the moving support is frictionless so that,
v
the sphere is slipping at B. At the instant shown, AB = R 2 .
(a) Find the speed of the centre of the sphere at the given
instant.
(b) Find the horizontal component of the velocity of the centre of the sphere.
An adiabatic chamber has frictionless insulated piston of mass m.
Mass of the remaining chamber including gas is 4m. n moles of an
ideal monoatomic gas is present inside the chamber at atmospheric
temperature and pressure. Piston is at rest and in equilibrium. Piston
is confined to move along the length of the cylinder. A particle of mass
m moving with horizontally with speed v, strikes elastically with the
piston. Calculate the change in temperature of the gas when the
compression of the gas is maximum.
Figure shows a Youngs double slit experiment set-up. The
0
source S of wavelength 4000 A oscillates along y-axis
according to the equation y = sin t, where y is in millimeters
and t is in seconds. The distance between two slits S 1 and S2 is
0.5 mm. Then find the
(a) position of the central maxima as a function of time.
