Reflection: In this individual piece of the Framework assignment, I was attempting to
sum up the work that I had done earlier in the course to convey the idea of flexibility to
younger students. I feel that I effectively analyzed the inner workings of my genre and put
what I was doing into perspective.
Framework Individual Assignment
My goal for this project was to use a genre to convey the concept of flexibility
to upcoming students around the early high school age. In order to effectively do this, my
group used three genres: website, speech, and open forum. Each of these genres had their

Does this do what you want it to?

point with this. I didnt even think to make a
more creative title but it would definitely
help my paper to be more engaging.

place in the larger goal of the project. The speech would present the idea to be discussed
to the students as one mass of information. Then, students would have the opportunity to
speak to real college students with knowledge of the topic to clarify things. As part of the
project, a website was made to tie all of the parts of the project together. This website
made information easily accessible to the students.

Comment [4]: Not sure what you mean
Levine Schollar 10/18/2014 7:11 PM
Comment [5]: I meant that the speech
would function somewhat like a class
lecture in that it presents a large amount of
info at one time and it isnt necessarily very
refined.

In this assignment I practiced rhetorical knowledge primarily by being very

considerate of the audience. Based on my knowledge that the students we will be
addressing may not see the value of what we are saying or have the attention to deal with
it all, I used the open forum genre as a way to immerse them in the topic and hopefully
make it more real for them.

Comment [6]: Good idea. I like that idea
of immersion.

Over the course of my education I have done many things that have helped
cultivate my critical thinking for this project. The main thing that has helped me to
develop critical thinking is simply to read somewhat difficult texts and analyze what I
have read on a deeper level and respond to it. Gradually, through this process, I have
been able to gather conclusions about writing and many life-related situations in general.
Over the course of doing this project, my writing process remained basically the
same. I first try to look deeply into what I will be writing about. Often, I will read
something many times before responding to it. For this project, I read the project
description and questions repeatedly so that I would be able to maintain relevance with
what I was writing. After I did the preliminary part of my writing process, I sat down and

let the thoughts flow, trying to write the assignment all in one sitting. After I had written
all that I felt was necessary, I read over what I have written and revised it.
In terms of conventions, I was further exposed to a new set of guidelines that I
needed to pay close attention to in order to be successful. I didnt really gain new
knowledge about grammar, but was forced to be flexible in approaching a new set of
guidelines.
In this project I composed in basically the same environment. I wrote all of it

new guidelines?

guidelines of the project. This section of my
paper isnt very clear. This should be
rewritten.

using my laptop and the same word processor. There were, however, other variables that
were important for this project. One variable was the style of writing that was being done.
Between the actual genre, the group analysis, and the individual piece, I had to approach
a varied set of writing styles. Having to approach different styles in the way that I did
forced me to leave my comfort zone a little, which helps me to grow as a writer.

Comment [12]: In what ways?

Levine Schollar 10/18/2014 7:14 PM
Comment [13]: This helps me as a writer
because it makes me try something new that
isnt natural and formulaic. When I write a
type of assignment that I already know how
to do well, I can almost do it without
thinking. This forced me to truly
contemplate what I was doing.

Daniel,
Nice job. I wasnt expecting your piece to end when it did. Think about how you might
move your reader back out of your paper. Also, think about including a link to your
website here so that your readers could see what you are referring to, and maybe even
include hyperlinks or illustrations etc. to help make your point. Its easy to forget that you
can do that, so try to see where such rhetorical moves are helpful to what you are trying
to do.
