There is no specific reason that what school survey data are supposed to be published online or not. lt is a
research-based study report for informative purpose only; there is no standard format what needs to be
included or not. I try to cover generic information as possible based on the questions asked in the survey. As
known, there are more than 200 items in the survey.

Due to time limit and my different job duty, I no longer publish the full version of the final reports as those back
to ZOO4 or before. Only shorter versions of final reports were published in recent years. I recruit those most
frequently asked data in the publication. lf people feel a need to have cigarettes and smokeless tobacco
numbers reported in the statewide study. l'll do that this year (2008). Also, the statewide school survey results
can be upon request. lf people find something interesting which is not covered in the final report, they're
welcome to email me the requests. That's why the survey instrument is always published online for reference.

Now I know you're interesting in these two tobacco products, I'll include some info on them in the 2008 report

Llang
(p.s.) BTW, if you're interesting in tobacco products specifically, you may look into other surveys such as
Tobacco Youth Survey http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/tobaccoitryts.shtm. And for adult population, the BRFSS
survey http.//www.dshs.state"tx.us/chs/brfss/ has some info too.

Liang, is there a reason why DSHS doesn't publish the 2006 and 2008 cigarette and smokeless

Liang, is DSHS no longer publishing student use rates for smokeless tobacco and cigarettes
in

the statewide Texas School Surveys or are you publishing that information in other reports? I
Survey
cannot locate that data in the 2006 and 20oB executive summaries of the Texas School
previous
on substance Use (only general tobacco use rates were shown), even though
TSS

executive summaries do show smokeless tobacco and cigarette use rates among students'

Thank you for Your assistance'

Liang, I'm trying to find the exact percentage of students (grades 7 - 72) that had
past
month use of smokeless tobacco and cigarettes in the 1990 - 2006 statewide surveys, but
all I could find is data for general tobacco use in Table B1' Can you provide the
comprehensive statistical results for those surveys?
