About Oracle Applications

Additionally in ANY date field you can type the date in the ddmonyyyy format & it will update it
for you
Type in 12jul12 & hit the tab key
o (tab key validates what has been entered in the field and/ or initiates a hot
key search if a lov is tied to that field)

Date is automatically updated into the format oracle requires

Hot Key search capability in a lov field (opening a lov & then entering the search criteria &
clicking find are extra & unnecessary key strokes/ mouse clicks)
Payee Name enter partial value ended w/ a wildcard % (I know it starts w/ Pay but dont know
how it ends)

Hit Tab key on keyboard

It returns all Payee Name values that start w/ Pay & you can select the 1 youre looking for &
then click ok

Query (F11) vs Find (Flashlight)

Query Mode
In Query mode, you can use the menu bar to access a query, or you can use
keyboard shortcuts [F11] to enter a query and press and hold [Ctrl] + [F11] to
execute a query.
You use the existing window to prepare your search criteria for the query. You
can enter specific information in any field to narrow your search.
When using wildcards to prepare your search criteria, you can use all query
operators to narrow your search.
In query mode, you can check to see how many records match your criteria
even before retrieving the data that matches your query.
Using Query Mode
How to Use Query Mode
1. (M) View > Query By Example > Enter.
2. Enter the search criteria in any of the fields (indicated by blue) that can be
queried, using wildcard characters and query operators as necessary.
a. You can also select View > Query By Example > Show Last Criteria to display
the search criteria used in your last search, if you performed one
3. (M) View > Query By Example > Run to perform the search
4. (M) View > Query By Example > Cancel to cancel from Enter Query mode
How to Obtain a Query Count
5. Perform steps 1 and 2 above
6. (M) View > Query By Example > Count Matching Records to display the number
of records a Query By Example search would retrieve.

Query Form Example (I just clicked on the Payments form behind the Payments Find
form)
Hit the F11 key on your keyboard to put the form in query mode (you can also get in
query mode via the Menu> View> Query> Enter)

Youll notice the fields are that able to be queried against are light purple & there is a
message at the bottom of the screen telling you how to execute and/ or cancel query
mode based on what you want to do

Im looking for payments w/ 18-Jul-12 as the date (but Im unsure if this form puts time
stamps w/ the date) & I only want to see payments for Paid to Name Pay%
Now I need to click the Ctrl + F11 keys on my keyboard at the same time to execute my
query (you can also execute your query via the Menu> View> Query> Run)

The message bar at the bottom is telling you that you are viewing record 1 of 1

In most applications if there is a Find form to start with, you can click straight
on the form in back of it & query from it
Sometimes the results form has more data fields to search/ query by
especially if there are folders

Using Query Operators and Wildcard Characters

You can use any of the query operators listed in the table shown in the slide. You can
also use the percentage (%) wildcard character to represent any character or group of
characters. For example, use Manuf% to represent Manufacturing, Manufacturer,
and so on. You can also use the underscore (_) character to represent any single
character. For example, Product_ can represent ProductA or Product1.
Find Mode
(M) View > Find or click the Find icon (Flashlight) on the toolbar
In Find mode, you use the menu bar to access the Find window, or you click the
icon on the toolbar.
You use a new window, the Find window, to prepare your search criteria.
The list of values is available in many fields in Find mode.
The Query Count feature is not available in Find mode.

Any underlined character on a form is the hot key which means you can use the Alt key on your
keyboard & that underlined value to perform that function
In the payments overview find form the Find button is Find which means as soon as you enter
the data youd like to search by you can click Alt + I on your keyboard at the same time & it will
engage the Find button just like you clicked it w/ your mouse.
