Jan. 10 Introduction to Silkscreen/ class overview:

First Assignment: Begin collecting ideas for 1st assignment. See handout
Locker assignments
Materials you will need. Costs etc. Books will be in locker (combo
under sink)
Introduction to process of Screen printing
Take screen orders and paper orders
Slides if time

Jan. 17 Preparing your screen - demo


Demo: in class screen prepping, emulsion application and printing of
flats. Planning your screens. Preparing your paper
Assignment: Turn in wallpaper design next week for approval
Do not miss this class!

Jan. 24 Hand out screens and prepare


Ink mixing and clean up.
Assignment. Have flats printed by next week 1-31

Jan. 31 In class printing. Demo on registering Image

Feb. 07 In class printing. Prints due 2-14

Feb. 14 Review on Wallpaper prints


Demo on image development/ computer generated image
layout of color image construction.
Assignment: 2nd print Turn in images ideas for this project on 2-21
Print 2 will be due 3-14
Do not miss this class!

Feb. 21 Turn in Image ideas. Have screens cleaned out.


Work with individuals on layouts and proposals

Mar. 7 Spring Break (printroom will be available- building is open

Materials you will need to provide for this class:

Roll of 1" masking tape also scotch tape.


Apron or old shirt
Lots of rags (cotton preferable)
Several terri cloth towels
Gloves- latex or vinyl
Sponge
Ruler
scissors or exacto knife
Jars or containers for ink
Pencils.
Notebook
long tongue depressors or other stir utensils.
Your will be responsible for screens and paper. $$$$
Screens are about $ 25 or $12.00 a yard for replacement screen
And I will take up an order for the paper
Ist Assignment: after seeing slides begin to collect examples of images that have the
potential to be silkscreen works. These should be images that are interesting aesthetically
to you and use effects that have silkscreen like character to them. 30 images by Mar 14.

The first project will be a simple wallpaper like printing. Not wallpaper on your
computer but actual wallpaper design. I would like it to contain 3 elements. One
background color, one series of fill shapes and one outline. That will be 3 screen
printings. You will print each of these as syllabus denotes and finished print will be done
by Feb. 14. It is important that you understand the process in its simple nature and we
will move up in complexity as experience is gained.
