Objectives

This project is a culmination of all the skills that I have learned

this semester. We needed to create a two-sided brochure, an
original logo, and use a text wrap within the logo.

Process

This project took a little brainstorming, a lot of sketching, and

some skills with Word, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
After some sketches, I knew that my logo needed a picture of
a baby. So I looked for some images that I could use to trace
a baby. After finding the perfect images. I used the pen tool
to trace over the image to create a baby. From there, I copied
the baby into another Illustrator project and started making
the logo. I used the circle tool, the eyedropper, the type on a
line tool, font, and some others. I then took my newly created
logo and placed it into an InDesign layout that had been
created for a past assignment. I decided to utilize my good
friends skills as a newborn photographer and found several
pictures of twins that would work just right. From there, it was
a lot of placing of my body copy, my logo, and my images. I
changed the opacity on the image on the back. Wrapped the
text of the block quote, and added a few lines to continue the
color and double theme. I used Photoshop along the way to
crop and to use the magnetic lasso.

A Guide for Surviving the

First Few Weeks

Theyre here!

All the waiting, discomfort, and worrying about delivery is

over. Now it is time to take care of these twins, but what do
you do now? All the book reading and preparing sometimes
goes out the window the moment you walk in the door
replaced by survival. The rst few weeks will be a time of little
sleep, lots of feedings, millions of diapers, and snuggles. Its a
time of adjustment, but dont worry soon enough you will feel
like a pro! Here are some quick tips that might make this all a
little easier.

Feeding

Newborns eat every two-three hours. Feeding twins is an extra challenge.

I had decided to tandem nurse with my twins, but one twin was struggling
with being lethargic. My advice to my past self would have been to take
the stress off you. If you dont tandem nurse, it doesnt mean that you
are a bad parent. There are many different ideas for this situation. First,
I would say parenting take a lot of out-of-the box thinking. Feed one with
a bottle and nurse the other or if you are just beyond exhausted allow for
helpers to feed the babys one feeding and you sleep. More than your
milk, babies need a mom. Just remember this is all temporary. They will
become more procient at eating and you will become more procient at
feeding them.

Nighttime Routines

Enjoy this
time because they
grow too fast. Before you know it they
will be crawling, walking, and off to
school. There is something magical and
unique about twins. Remember, there
will never be a time like this again.

Oh the dreaded nighttime. Up all night with screaming babies and a mom
and dad who just want sleep. A couple of things that might help ease the
nighttime routine is one dont feel that you need to wake your babies. If
they are gaining weight then just let them sleep. Their little bellies will tell
them when they need to eat. Two, if one wakes then feed them both. It
may be that one will sleep through the night or several hours, but do you
want to take the chance that as soon as you put Twin A back to bed and
you have just fallen back to sleep Twin B decides they are hungry. Its best
to just feed and diaper them both and then you know you most likely have
two-three hours to sleep. Three let them sleep together. They spent the
last nine months together. They are used to one another and will sleep
better together. Lastly, if none of these tips work for you throw them out
the window and get creative.

Taking Care of Mom

This is the most important tip. If you dont take care of mom, then mom
is no good taking care of babies. I remember after several infections and
trying to be super mom, I was at my wits end and it suddenly dawned on
me that if I didnt eat and drink then my babies could not eat and drink.
Ask for help, take a nap, and dont worry about if your babies outts
are coordinated.

Objectives

Our objective is to create three seperate logos with two

different styles and three different color schemes.

Process

After some quick thumbnail sketches and research on the

internet, I used Adobe Illustrator to create all of my logos. I
used a variety of skills including the pen tool, type tool, shape
tools, paintbrush, group, join, reflect, copy, and paste tools.
This was a great learning opportunity and although I had a
basic understanding of Illustrator, I was able to increase my
knowledge and technique through practice. I incorporated
many design principles into my logos. I paid close attention
to the message, audience, shape, proximity, alignment, value,
color, rhythm, and gestalt.

Objectives

Our assignment was to pair together, at least two pictures,

with a quote editing it in Photoshop. We needed to use a layer
mask and blend the images together. A strong message and
typography were important to this assignment.

Process

I used Adobe Photoshop to create and edit this piece. I

used a myriad of tools including the crop, lasso, masking
layer, brush, clone stamp, color dropper to match colors,
grid to align words, and a few others that probably have
long been forgotten.
I incorporated many principles in the design process. First,
I brainstormed ideas, quotes, and what I wanted to portray
to the audience. I found my quote and started searching for
images and with these images I sketched out some ideas. I
used alignment with the font. I spent a lot of time ensuring
that my font was nicely left aligned while focusing on leading
and kerning. I added contrast with the serif and sans serif
fonts that were used. I used color to emphasis and lead the
audience to know what was most important. I think there is a
nice rhythm in the background images. Gestalt was used to
make the four background images, the family, and the font
into one inclusive group.

Objectives

Project three was all about learning how to use Adobe

Photoshop. We were to pick color schemes, take pictures
incorporating the light, focus, and composition techniques
that we learned about this week, edit the image, and then
create a photodesign only using Photoshop.

Process

The only program I used was photoshop. I used many tools

to create this photodesign including the levels, vibrance,
selective color, sharpen tool, and clone tool to edit the picture.
Then I used shapes, fonts, colors, leading kerning, text boxes,
and probably a few more that I have since forgotten to create
the artwork.
As far as skills, I think I incorporated a lot of alignment in this
artwork. Alignment in the body copy, alignment with my body
copy and the flag, and alignment with the bars and the end of
my decorative script words Forbid it, Life, and Death.
I think I used a good color scheme and created value in the
white font. I created a visual hierarchy with the flag, then the
words death, life, and forbid it. I think that having those words
in different size not only pulled the audience in, but made the
hierarchy and emphasis clear.
As suggested by my teacher, I broke out of the box with
my bars and my quote because if Patrick Henry can defy a
government than I can defy a box.

Objectives

Our assignment is to create a stationery system from start

to finish. We are to begin with a new logo and then create a
business card and letterhead from there. We were to make
sure that our letterhead and business card repeated the same
design ideas.

Process

For this project, I used a variety of tools starting with Adobe

Illustrator and InDesign. First, I needed to decide on a
company. Once I decided on a company, I searched the
internet for ideas. I took these ideas and started to sketch
out some thumbnails. I took my two favorite thumbnails and
created two logos with them in Illustrator. I used an arsenal
of tools to create my logos including: the pen, triangle tool,
eyedropper, type tools, opacity, leading, and tracking. I picked
my favorite logo and then placed it in InDesign to create my
letterhead and business cards. While using InDesign, I used a
variety of tools including the shape tools, place, line tool, the
type tool, the free transform tool, and export.

Objectives

A flier advertising for a three day seminar helping soon-to-be

graduates gain skills to find and succeed in the job market.

Process

I used Adobe InDesign for this project. I used many tools in

the creation of this flyer including: the place tool, the free
transform tool, the text box tool, the rectangle tool, and the
color tools. I incorporated the design principles of repetition
with the bars on both top and bottom. I used alignment to line
up all the different aspects of my flyer. I organized my positive
and negative space to make appealing shapes. I utilized
proximity by grouping similar items close together. I created a
focal point with the logo drawing your attention, then drawing
your eyes to the image and lastly to the bold line about having
the competitive edge. I created a safe rhythm, which gave the
flyer a professional feel.

Objectives

Using Microsoft Word, we needed to create an event ad for a

local benefit. We needed to utilize the design principles and
have a clear message for our audience.

Process

I completely redid this project. The original was okay, but I

felt like I could be a better project that really showcased my
techniques and abilities. I used many of Microsoft Word tool
including text box, shapes, and even edit the background out
of the picture. I still feel that I could make something better
with Adobe products, but not bad for Word and its limited
capabilities. I tried to ensure that my ad utilized the principles
of repetition, alignment, proximity, asymmetry, value, focal
point, rhythm and gestalt.

Objectives

Our assignment was to create a website layout using

photoshop, HTML, and CSS. We needed to incorporate design
principles into our project.

Process

I used an arsenal of tools in Illustrator` to create my logo

including: the pen, triangle tool, eyedropper, type tools,
opacity, leading, and tracking. I picked my favorite logo
and then placed it in InDesign to create my letterhead and
business cards. For this project, I took my logo and placed it in
a basic website layout that would showcase my logo.
I used alignment in lining up the edge of my logo with my
text. I repeated my colors with the text and the images.
Proximity was used with the text and images to give it a
cohesive feel. Their is a clear visual hierarchy that moves the
viewers eye down the page nicely. All of these principles
combined create an overall strong rhythm which makes the
message clear and understandable.
