CLASS PROFILE
The students are between the ages of 16 and 30, there 11 women and 9 men. Most of them work,
some are university students and two are studying at school.
As a whole group they are a bit below the level. They are quite reluctant to participate and that is
why it is necessary to nominate them. They have some problems with grammar (tenses) they tend to
omit or make up words, and pronunciation issues (intonation). However, when they are asked to
work in pairs or groups they are willing to do so. I also noticed that they need prompts in order to
express their opinion and ideas. I also have noticed that they use their mother tongue (Spanish)
when they are not being heard by me and that is why I need to be monitoring so as not to give them
chances to use Spanish.
Their motivation level is average, they told me they need English for their work and some of them
want to learn to find a good job when they finish their studies.

BACKGROUND
The classes are held form Monday to Friday at 7:00 am, and they last one hour and a half each. They
have been studying about using the future for plans and predictions, also vocabulary related to
communication. In the next lessons they will be watching a video about the internet and they will
have to write a memo to a group of people.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Lesson Aim
By the end of the lesson my students will be able to deal with misunderstanding, using specific
phrases that will help them to develop their speaking skills.
Lesson Objectives:
Functional Objective:
The students will learn phrases that are used to deal with misunderstandings.
Examples:

I didnt catch any of that

Youve lost me

I dont get what youre saying

Do you mean to tell me?

Pronunciation Objective:
My students will be able to intonate, stress and pronounce the phrases that are taught through
extensive drilling.
Examples:

I didnt catch any of that

Youve lost me

I dont get what youre saying

Do you mean to tell me?

Speaking Objective:
My students will be able to express accurately and appropriately if they misunderstand some
information and ask for clarification through conversations.
Example:
I didnt catch any of that, can you say that again?

Relation between lesson aims / objectives and students needs:

As most of my students need to work on their speaking skills and they need prompts to
communicate, I consider it vital to teach them useful language in order to help them communicate
with their peers. The lack of vocabulary and phrases is what is preventing them from conveying that
they want to say.
As they are a bit shy, I think that providing them with useful phrases might give them the
opportunity to use the language in a non-restricted way.

Personal Objectives: as it is very important in the learning process, I will conduct drilling more
extensively. I will also monitor to be a resource for my students and not an intruder.
