Pressure Controls
The Product Range
Electronic pressure controls are suited for
use in all pneumatic or hydraulic systems
in which pressures have to be measured,
monitored and controlled. Mechanical
versions are increasingly being replaced
by the more efficient electronic types.
The disadvantages of mechanical devices

are obvious:
In order to adjust switch points
accurately it is necessary to connect an
additional manometer
Mechanical devices need frequent
re-adjustment
Mechanical components are subject to
wear and thus require regular
maintenance
Electronic pressure controls made by

TURCK feature piezo-resistive measuring
cells. The impact of pressure on the
ceramic coating leads to deformation of
the integrated thick-film resistors.
TURCKs family of pressure controls

incorporates a complete line of devices.
Alongside standard switching functions
these devices offer additional features
such as
peak pressure memory
adjustable response and switching
delay times
programming protection
sensor diagnostics
conversion of unit of measurement
from bar to psi
These resistors, which are integrated in a

Wheatstone bridge, consequently change
their resistance value. This change in
resistance is then processed electronically
and indicated as a value proportional to
the pressure condition.
The piezo-resistive measuring cells used
by TURCK offer high overpressure
resistance, excellent stability,
reproducibility and a long lifetime.

PC-M
Our line of pressure controls is integrated into
a robust metal housing with a user-friendly and
practical design. They are especially suited to
harsh industrial environments. The devices are
equipped with particularly overpressure
resistant piezo-resistive ceramic measuring
cells which withstand peak pressures
frequently occurring in such applications.
IN METAL
HOUSINGS
There are devices for pressure ranges from

0...1 up to 0...600 bar and versions for
vacuum pressures from -1 up to 0 bar.
Owing to the various switching and analogue
output functions, these pressure controls can
be adapted perfectly to the subsequent signal
evaluation method.
All devices of this series comprise additional
standard functions such as a peak pressure
memory, adjustable response, switching and
display delay times plus sensor diagnostics.
They are mainly used in hydraulic and

pneumatic applications in which these extra
functions - alongside compactness and easy
of installation - are indispensable.

Terms and Definitions

Admissible overpressure
The admissible overpressure is the
maximum pressure load occurring
occasionally which will not harm the
switch, even if the specified tolerances are exceeded.
output it is possible to trigger this function

via a digital input that is connected to the
control system. An analogue signal
according to 50% of the devices rating
(12 mA or 5 V) is generated. This value can
then be verified by the control system.
Burst pressure
The burst presssure is defined as the
minimum pressure that the device has to
be able to withstand without suffering any
harm. If the burst pressure is exceeded
there is a risk of mechanical damage.
Display response time

The display response time can be adjusted
in three steps. If it is not necessary to
display very small pressure variations on
the 7-segment display, the display can be
parameterised accordingly.
Current consumption
This term is used to specify the current
flowing in a switched condition that is
needed to maintain the function of the
device.
Hysteresis mode
In this mode, it is possible to adjust an
upper switch point (SP) and a lower
release point (rP). Here the output
switches, if the system pressure reaches
the upper switch point (SP). If the system
pressure falls, the output switches at the
lower release point (rP).
Diagnosis function
The diagnosis function is used to check
the sensor circuit and the piezo-resistive
measuring cell when pressure applies.
The function may be enabled manually and
the test result is indicated either as Done
or Err. With the devices with analogue
Max. switching frequency

The max. switching frequency indicates
how many times the switching output is
able to change state within one second.
Medium temperature
The medium temperature specifies
the temperature range within which
the pressure control conforms to the
indicated measuring characteristics.
Output function
The output function refers to the function
of the electric output of the pressure
control. There are devices with analogue
or switching output (see switching
function) and combined versions.

The pressure memory serves to read out
the maximum peak pressure. The memory
is cleared by a reset.
Precision
The precision is expressed as a percentage of the measuring range. Best
detection is achieved when the size of a
sensor is close to that of the maximum
pressure of the system to be controlled.
As a general rule, avoid working towards
the bottom limit of the pressure range.

Pressure connection
The pressure coupling is the mechanical
connection point to the hydraulic system
within which the pressure is to be
monitored. With our devices, the pressure
coupling is a threaded connection with
a G1/4 interior thread according to
DIN 3852.
Pressure range
The pressure range indicates the operating
range of the pressure control. The
operating range is the range within which
measuring tolerances are within the
indicated ratings.
Release point
In the hysteresis mode the output
switches at the release point (rP)
if the system pressure falls. In the window
mode the output always switches at this
point, no matter whether the pressure
rises or falls.
Status indication
The devices are equipped with LEDs to
indicate the output status and the selected
unit of measurement (bar/psi).
Switching delay
The switching delay is the interval between
reaching the adjusted switch point and
subsequent changing of state of the
output. Series PC-M and the analogue
devices of series PC-P feature an
adjustable switching delay of 0...50 s.
Switching function
The switching function is used to indicate
the adjustable performance of the
switching output, i.e. normally closed
(N.C.) or normally open (N.O.)
With the PC-M series , it is possible to
choose between a pnp or npn output
function.
Repeat accuracy
The term repeat accuracy is defined as
the maximum switch point drift of a series
of switching operations under constant
ambient conditions.
Switch point
In the hysteresis mode, the output
switches at the switch point (SP) if the
pressure rises. In the window mode the
output always switches at this point,
independently of whether the pressure
rises or falls.
Response time
In order to suppress short-term pressure
pulses leading to unwanted switching of
the output, it is possible to adjust the pulse
width between 5...500 ms.

The term switch point accuracy is used
to define the maximum drift of the adjusted
switch point value relative to the actual
value of the switch point.
Reverse polarity protection

Internal constructive measures ensure
protection of the pressure switch against
reverse polarity.
Temperature error
The switch point accuracy largely depends
on the operating temperature.
A temperature error becomes evident by
a drift of the output curve.
Shock resistance
The pressure controls are shock tested
according to IEC 68-2-27 at 50 g.
Short-circuit protection
Our pressure controls incorporate an
electronic protection against overcurrents.
Window mode
In this mode, it is possible to adjust an
upper switch point (SP) and a lower
release point (rP). If the system pressure
exceeds or falls below one of these
switching points, the output switches.
The window mode is especially suited
for applications in which it is required
to trigger an alarm, if the system pressure
is within or outside the specified range
(window).
The pressure controls are tested in
accordance to IEC 68-2-6 and are
vibration-proof up to 5 g in a frequency
range of 25...200 Hz, or up to 35 g in
a frequency range of 60...2000 Hz.
