DESIGN PHILOSOPHY:

Architecture Creates with a Purpose

Why did I design or build it? Who is going to used that? What is the
function of that? As a designer, all those questions always linger on my mind
before I start doing or designing something. The problem itself dictates me
on how to design and give solution on a particular design problem. For me,
the designer should always end up building what is the structure should be,
not on what is the building should look like. Always end up solving what is
their clients problem. The architects should always give satisfaction and
contentment on their client in terms of their design solution. The challenge of
being an architect is you should always consider the purpose of every single
structure without sacrificing its aesthetic. He/she always look in a creative
way to solve different design problems that their client have. That is why
architecture always creates with a purpose. The purpose and function of it
serve as your foundation in order for you to create a great architecture.

DESIGN CONCEPT:
As what is stated on the design problem, Rizal Technological
University would like to build an office building and instruction center for the
forthcoming expansion of the campus which will include the new School of
Architecture.
The administration would like the same area as the current
quadrangle incorporated into the site to accommodate the sports
requirements of the University. The solution must also incorporate a full
sports practice area as the one existing but adding any other facilities.
Since we all know that the existing quadrangle in the campus is
being flooded during typhoon days, as my design solution I made it have the
same ground floor level in the Promenade and Administration Building to make
it flood free. And to make it green, I placed a large open area on the center
below using open grid pavement system to contribute to vegetate 25% of
the total site area.

DESIGN CONCEPT:
The open area itself serves as the main lobby and passage way from
Promenade to Administration and ITC Building. As for parking requirements, I
put 2 levels of parking with loft to accommodate atleast 200 or more
compact vehicles since RTU dont have enough space for parking. For the
sports and practice facilities, I placed it in the last floor lever of the building
for the athlete to concentrate and focus on their practice without any
distraction like on the current used quadrangle.
As my design concept, I used Neo-Classic style of Architecture.
Since it is a school of architecture, it should serve as a trade mark to
everyone that whenever they look at the building they will automatically know
that this is a school of architecture. I also placed a display area for scaled
model done by RTU Architecture student in the main lobby for everyone who
passed through it see how creative the RTU Architecture students are.

DESIGN OBJECTIVES:
1. The building should accommodate the sports and practice facilities
required, at the same time School of Architecture, Parking building and Multipurpose area for special events.

2. The building should answer all the needs and requirements of Rizal
Technological University without losing its aesthetic.
3. The building should be the home of architecture students to enhance their
creativity and knowledge in terms of Architecture.

4.The building should symbolize how creative architecture students are, and
serves as their monument for everyone to appreciate the real meaning of
architecture.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS:
1. Natural Lighting & Ventilation
There is a lot of ambient lighting during the day. Allowing natural daylight to
enter the building by locating the windows on the north and south, it will
reduce reliance on artificial or electrical lights. To reduce the heat inside the
building, the direct sun rays especially from the east and west blocked by
walls or sun-shading devices. Making 25% of the total site area vegetated
by the use of open grid pavement system and green roofing.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS:
2. Circulation
The circulation should allow everyone use all the facilities of the building
considering the zoning and the main function of the rooms.

3. Accessibility
Considering people with disability and allowing them to use and move
freely inside the building with the used of elevators, ramps, toilets for
PWD, handicapped parking and wide corridors.
