We live in an era that the Antibiotics are used misused and many are ineffective
however in many hospitals the Doctors prescribe the Antibiotics with best of their
experiences, whether good or bad and few with self-interests with many conflicts of
interests. Many private laboratories are run by least qualified and least paid with
minimal skills and the many Doctors benefit out of the commissions and kickbacks
given when they write the several laboratory requests. With emerging Medical
Colleges and rapidly growing Medical Institutes and private hospitals, run by very
inexperienced Doctors the patient is prescribed Antibiotics without reason on
empirical basis leading to a state, our Medical profession will be run by qualified
quacks replacing the unqualified quacks? Today the cost of the Antibiotics are more
than consultation and laboratory Investigations, as we are aware and analyze the
use of Antibiotics is a potential weapon can kill many critical patients in the Hospitals
and Intensive care unit, if you analyze the patients death case sheets they spend
few thousands or even lakhs of Rupees as antibiotics are prescribed a salvage
therapy. Matter move till the issues get complicated as we are losing the wisdom of
modern medicine and self-interests and lack of knowledge rules the profession. The
critical role of the microbiology laboratory in infectious disease diagnosis calls for a
close, positive working relationship between the physician and the microbiologists
who provide enormous value to the health care team. If you analyze few of the
Laboratory requests majority do not contain any Information regarding the patient
including the minimal reasons for sending the specimens, it is the great danger
awaits many patients investigated at private laboratories without qualified
Microbiologists all the Normal flora are tested as pathogens and Antibiograms are
created, indicating false hope with antibiotics, Recently I was seeing report
generated in a Private Laboratory all the Cephalosporins are tested for
Enterococcus above all it is emphasizing they are highly effective I am certain if you
really treat the patients depending on this report it is catastrophic, if he is a true
patient, or else it will generate super bugs in the vicinity the patient lives . I am not
pessimistic but with watching events, it will be impossible to implement the Antibiotic
policy as many of the patients in Critical care units gets nearly 4 recent generation of
Antibiotics, ultimately killing the patients, and Hospitals will be loaded with most
resistant bacterial strains if the effective hygienic practices are not followed many in
the wards too get infected. Today we live for todays advantage with the selfinterests. I wish young Microbiologists should learn to practice with scientific wisdom
or else we lose the value of our specialty and Departments and it will be just a
modern quackery, However we can start improving our Microbial diagnosis with idea
to practice with knowledge as ours is great specialty can give many solutions to
diagnose and treat, Unlike other areas of the diagnostic laboratory, clinical
microbiology is a science of interpretive judgment that is becoming more complex,
not less. Even with the advent of laboratory automation and the integration of
genomics and proteomics in microbiology, interpretation of results still depends on
the quality of the specimens received for analysis.
NEVER
FORGET ANTIBIOTICS ARE THE GREAT KILLERS IF THE MATTERS ARE NOT
IMPROVED IN PRACTICE OF MICROBIOLOGY WITH OPTIMAL AND EFFECTIVE
RESOURCES.
