using10FT1/4ODcoppertubingmadeinaconeshape.BeforeIgotthetubing
Iwasusing12AWGsolidcopperwirewrappedarounda2.5pieceofPVC.Ifthis
isallthatyoucangetthenthatwillbefine.Ifindthearcsarebiggeratthethird
orfourthturnoftheprimarycoil.Itsbesttousealligatorclipsonthewiresto
adjusttheturns.Theprimarycoilwillbehookedupatonesideonthetank
capacitorandtotheothersideofthesparkgap.

Step5:Secondarycoil

whereyouspendagoodchunkoftimewindingthecoil.Thesecondarycoil
shouldbe5timesbiggerthanthediameterpipeyouareusingsoIamusing1.5
indiameterthenthelengthofthecoilshouldbe7.5in.Igotmymagneticwire
fromradioshackrememberitcomeswith22,27,and30gagewire.Youare
onlygoingtousethe27awgwire,itshouldbegreen.Youaregoingtouseall
threeoftherollsofwire!Thiswillmakethecoiltoturnoutat8inwhichwillbe
fine!Idrilled4smallholesatthebottomofthepvcpipe.Runthewireinthen
out,intheoutandbackin.Thereshouldbealittlebitofwirestickingoutthe
bottomofthepvcpipe.Thiswillbeconnectedtoearthground!Afteryouhave
donethatthenstarttoroll!Whenyourrollingthecoilandrunoutofthefirstroll,
putapieceoftapeholdingthewiretothepvcpipe,getthesecondrollthatyou
haveandsolderthetwoleadstogether(makesureyouscrapeoffsomeofthe
enamel).Getaslittlesolderonthemaspossible,andjustkeeponrolling!You

cancheckandseeifyouhaveaconnectionwithameter.Ifyoufindwire
somewhereelseandhaveenoughthenyoucanjustskipthis.Afteryouare
donerollingIdrilledthreeholeswherethecoilendsandranthewireinthenout
andbackinandupthetube.Thiswillholdthewiresoitdon
tcomeunwound!
Cutofftheremainingpvcpipebutleaveabout1to2inchesabovethecoil!
Imadeanothercoiloutofthe30awgwire.Youwillhavetoaddmoreturnson

ChangingtheBPSratedoeschangethefrequencythatyouhear
comingfromthesparks,butthereasonthatitisnotdonewithSGTCs

isthatasyouincreasetheBPS,theenergystoredinthetank
capacitorineachcycleislowerandlower,andthecapacitorisusually
matchedtothefrequencyofthetransformeranditsvoltageand
current,soonsomecycles,thetransformerwillchargethecapacitor
andthenreversepolarity,anddischargeit.Itmightwork,butateach
frequency,thesparkswouldtakeadifferentappearance,eventhough
thetotalenergyinthecircuitwouldremainthesame.Also,IGBTsare
notpracticalwithaSGTCduetotheVERYhighvoltagesandcurrents
involved.YoumightbeabletotrythiswithanOLTC,butIwouldn't
expectgoodresults.Also,MOTsareusuallybetterballastedusingan
inductiveballast,suchasanotherMOTwithshortedsecondary
windings.
