Information Needed In Order To Determine

Ventilation Air Volumes for Certain Equipment

Airslide

FK Pump System

Need width (feet) and total length (feet) of the airslide.

Multiplying these two dimensions together will give the
square feet of airslide. The required air volume is 10 cfm
per square foot of the airslide based on these dimensions.
This air volume may need to be increased based on the
temperature in the airslide.

Need the model(s) of the compressor(s) that operate the

pumps. Example is a C-300 compressor. By multiplying
the model number by 5.3 gives the approximate air
volume the pump produces. For a C-300 compressor, it is
300 x 5.3 = 1,590 cfm. Based on recommendations by
Fuller, we add a surge factor of 50% to this volume (in
other words, multiply by 1.5). For the above example,
1,590 cfm x 1.5 =2,385 cfm. This air volume may need to
be increased based on the temperature in the system.
When multiple compressors and pumps are used, the air
volumes of each are added together to result in the total
volume.

Belt Conveyor
Need width (feet) of the belt. The required air volume is
500 cfm per foot width of the belt. Add an additional 1,000
cfm when handling a very dusty material or the height
between belts is more than 3 feet. This air volume may
need to be increased based on the temperature of the
material on the belt.

Bucket Elevator
Need the width (feet) and depth (feet) of the housing of the
elevator. Multiplying these two dimensions together will
give the cross sectional area of elevator housing. The
required air volume is 100 cfm per square foot of the elevator housing based on these dimensions. This air volume
may need to be increased based on the temperature in
the elevator. Air volume does not depend on height of
elevator, however, for elevations over 30 high, half the
above calculated volume should be vented near the top
and the other half vented near the bottom. The vent point
should at the top should be below the head shaft and
above the tail shaft of the elevation.

Truck Pumps
Bulk tank trucks that pump into a silo or bin usually have
a pump that produces a shared volume of 600 to 800 cfm.
Get the exact rating if possible. When the line is cleared of
material at the end of the pumping cycle it produces a
surge of air for which we add a surge factor of 100% to
this volume (in other words, multiply by 2). For the above
example, 600 cfm x 2 =1,200 cfm.

Screen Unit
Need width (feet) and length (feet) of the screen. Air
volume does not depend on number of levels of screens
in the unit. Multiplying the above two dimensions together
will give the square feet of screen. The required air volume is 50 cfm per square foot of the screen based on
these dimensions. This air volume may need to be
increased based on the temperature in the screen unit.

Loading Spout
Need maximum possible loading rate in tons per hour
loaded out and type of material loaded. The required air
volume is:
[(tons/hr x 33.3)
(aerated bulk density in lbs. per cubic ft)] x 3.25,
plus air from airslides feeding spout
plus air of aeration pads on silo
The aerated bulk density used for cement is 40 pcf. This
air volume may need to be increased based on the
temperature of the material.
