SUBJECT: ANALOG ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT (ECE - 201)
TIME: 3 HOURS

MAX. MARKS: 50

Instructions to candidates
Answer ANY FIVE full questions.
Missing data may be suitably assumed.
1A. If = 0.98 and VBE = 0.7V, find R1 in the circuit of Figure.1A for an emitter current
IE = -2 mA. Neglect the reverse saturation current.
1B. Draw the circuit of a transistor based RC phase shift oscillator. Draw its equivalent
circuit using simplified CE, small signal, low frequency model for the transistor.
Explain the working of the oscillator. Derive expression of frequency of oscillation.
Obtain the minimum value of hfe required to start the oscillations.
(4+6)
2A. A class A power amplifier with transformer fed load is to deliver a maximum of 5W
to a 4 load (RL = 4). The quiescent point is adjusted for symmetrical clipping,
and the collector supply voltage is VCC = 20 V. Assume no distortion and Vmin = 0.
(a) What is the transformer turns ratio n = N2/N1?
(b) What is the peak collector current I m?
(c) What is the quiescent operating point I C, VCE?
(d) What is the collector circuit efficiency?
(e) What is the power dissipated by the transistor when there is no input signal?
2B. Draw the small signal, low frequency model for a CC amplifier using simplified CE
model. Derive expressions for AI, Ri, AV, Ro and Ro for this amplifier.
(5+5)
3A. For the amplifier shown in Figure 3A, compute AI = Io/Ii, AV, AVs and Ri. Given:
hie = 1,100, hre = 2.5 X 10-4, hfe = 50, 1/ hoe = 40 K.
3B. Analyse an exponential sweep circuit with neat circuit diagram and waveform.
Obtain expressions for sweep speed error, transmission error & displacement error
for this circuit.

IDSS = 1.65 mA. It is desired to bias the circuit at I D = 0.8 mA, using VDD = 24 V.
Assume r d >> Rd. Find (a) VGS, (b) gm, (c) Rs, (d) Rd, such that the voltage gain is at
least 20 dB, with Rs, bypassed with a very large capacitance C s.
