due dates. The website also includes various resources for the students and a copy
of this syllabus.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: English I guides ninth-grade students to develop, to utilize, and to integrate their skills
in
writing, grammar and usage, literature, speaking and listening, media skills, and critical thinking. The literature
course covers writing persuasive, descriptive and expository papers and includes reading novels, short stories,
drama, and research. The course also includes weekly vocabulary studies and grammar.
STANDARDS: This course will follow the 9 th Grade Common Core Standards. For a complete list of the

SUPPLIES: To be successful in this class, students need to bring these materials to class:
*A three-ring binder (1.5-2 inches)
*College Ruled Notebook Paper
*Tab dividers (at least seven)
*1 Subject Spiral Notebook (College*Pencils & Pens
Ruled)
*Paper
*School agenda
*Colored Pencils/Markers
*Tissue (to share with class)
*Your textbooks
*Hand Sanitizer (to share with class)

EVALUATION: Students will earn grades by completing all the assignments during a specific time span.
The weighing of all assignments for this semester will be as follows:
Homework
= 10%
Quizzes
= 20%
Tests/Projects
= 40%
Research Paper
= 10%
Final Exam
= 20%
*There is no Extra Credit offered in this course
*The EOCT (End of Course Test) will replace the final for the spring semester and count 20%
towards the students
final grade.

MAKE-UP AND LATE WORK:


1.
Late work is 10% off for each day late. After nine days, the assignment receives a zero.
2.
In order to submit late work, you must make an appointment with me before 8:15 and sit
down to discuss the assignment.
3.
Make-up work is only accepted with an excused absence. Anytime you miss class, it is
your responsibility to find out what you missed before or after school and turn in the work
on timeyou have five days to submit make-up work.
ACADEMIC DISHONESTY POLICY:
PLAGIARISM, or any attempt to obtain credit for work done by another, is unacceptablethis
includes:
*cheating on tests
*copying work of others
*copying ideas or copying word-for-word from books, magazines, encyclopedias, technology
media (plagiarism)
*failing to cite proper documentation or authorship
*using someone elses term paper
*or other similar activities
CHEATING INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
*possessing and/or using unauthorized material during quizzes, tests, and exams
*providing or accepting specific information about a classroom assignment, project, homework
, quiz, test, or exam
*sharing work product on any independent assignments.

CONSEQUENCES:
1st Offense: Warning
2nd Offense: Parent contact and/or teacher detention (20 minutes)
