1.- BRANCH CONNECTIONS

The design branch connections made in accordance with the followings:
(See 304.3.1 (b) in ASME B31.3-2012)
Condition 1:

1a)

< 100

1b)

2b) <

DATE:

10/6/2014

Angle is at least 45 deg

Condition 2:

Condition 4:

2a) 100

Condition 3:

REV:

The axis of the branch intersects the axis of the run

Where:
Dh is run pipe diameter
Th is thickness run pipe diameter
Db is the branch diameter
A pipe having a branch connection is weakened by the opening that
must be made in it and, unless the wall thickness of the pipe is sufficiently
in excess of that required to sustain th pressure, it is necessary to provide
added reinforcement. The amount of reinforcement required to sustain
the pressure shall be determined in accordance with paragraph 304.3.3 or
304.3.4 of the ASME B31.3-2012
2.- REINFORCEMENT OF WELDED BRANCH
(See paragraph 304.3.3 - ASME B31.3)

FIGURE 304.3.3: BRANCH CONNECTION NOMENCLATURE

Where:
b subscript referring to branch.
d 1 effective length removed from pipe at branch.
d 2 "half width" of reinforcement zone.
h subscript referring to run or header.
L 4 height of reinforcement zone outside of run pipe
T b is branch pipe thickness
T r is minimum thickness of reinforcing ring
t is pressure design thickness of pipe
c is plus corrosion and erosion allowances
is smaller angle between axes of branch and run
additional:
D is outside diameter of pipe as listed in tables of standards
E is quality factor from table A-1A or A-1B
P is internal design gage pressure
S is stress value for material from table A-1
W is weld joint strength reduction factor in accordance para. 302.3.5
Y is coeficient from table 304.1.1, valid t < D/6
