Children’s Weighing S cales Project 1998

This bucket type weighing scales was a

coursework submitment “Weigh It Up”
for a 2nd year university project.
Shown is the actual prototype which was vacuum
formed in red, yellow and blue plastic. It was used
in trials by children and I am looking to have it put
into production.
The balance uses no metal or small parts, the
mechanism comes solely from the shape.

‘MycoLAB’ Project for HRI

Coventry University 1998-99

MycoLAB was the follow up to a design

for a mushroom testing machine,
developed by the School of Engineering.
This packaged solution was part of a
presentation to the horticultural research
institute, and was a partially functioning
prototype complete with ‘running lights’
and mechanism.

‘S PIKEY’ S urge Protection Plug

Redditch Plastic Products 1999

Work on the surge protection plug began in 1998

as a new project plan. The company already
produced a surge plug but Spikey combined
innovative new manufacturing solutions and a
more aesthetic design.

Spikey was drawn on Solidworks ’99 and was the

first ‘live’ project that I worked on. Design
included packaging, leaflet, brass and
poly-carbonate components.

Decorative Toggle S witch

Redditch Plastic Products 1999
The project plan was based on an existing
switch mechanism. The toggle mechanism and
plates for 1,2 and 4 gang versions
were designed.
Now in production, emphasis was placed
on creating an attractive competitor to other
leading brands. On sale in B&Q warehouse .

“ECB” Environmental Conce pt Bus 2000-01

The vehicle below was presented to West Midlands T ransport and submitted as a showcase featuring a
number of design innovations. An 'electro-mechanical-battery' to store, wall mounted seating to aid in
the cleaning of the interior of the vehicle, smart seating, and an innovative articulated central steering
mechanism.. T he transport operator expressed interest in many of the ideas put forwards, and I hope to
have provided good ideas to expand and improve public transport.

As specialist teacher of Engineering, these are projects that I designed for pupils. Planning and preparing
exciting projects and work where children learn from creating, and designed to inspire them to learn.

scientifi c principles of flight. Using CNC processes, and
workshop skills, pupils are encourag ed to assess and
improve designs with educational worksheets and
interactive online guidance.

car to perform tasks. T he school has bought
components for 30 vehicles, which are to my own
design. T he project teaches microcontrollers and
